Probably known only in the UK Clive Dunn will be fondly remembered for his role in TV comedy as Corporal Jones in the long running TV comedy "Dad's Army" - now often re-played by the BBC.

Dunn who was 92 died after an operation.

Many of his catchphrases from the show have entered everyday parlance in the UK - in particular "Don't panic, don't panic."

His other contribution to popular culture is best forgotten - the big hit single "Grandad" a novelty song that was a chart topper in the 1970s.

Didn't know the man. But 92 years of life, providing you haven't done too bad, which what you're saying seems to suggest, Prospero, 92 years of life in this crazy world before it starts to completely annihilate itself, is not too bad, not too bad at all.
Born after the first WW, went through the Depression, was 19 at the beggining of WW2, 26 at the end, and saw the worst. Everything after must have seem like a pic nic in the garden. Seen the developement of aviation, of sky rockets, of electronic media; dies before the next terrible catastrophe, whatever one is coming. And simply die as a consequence of an operation. RIP, Clive Dunn...

He was a prisoner of war during world war two - as was my own father. I know what a terrible experience that was (counter to the image generally portrayed in WW2 POW films) so it was great that Clive later had a very positive career.
