I was wondering why some tgirls will not change their driver license name or gender marker after transitioning. Just wanted to get you ladies opinion on the subject? It is just weird you see this hot transwoman chick and on the driver license it still has Bob listed as the name.

i was once told by a particular tgirl that many don't do it because of lack of information on the legality and procedure on how to do. also, i have heard some fans allege that it is because some early transition or amateur tgirls are in fact not in transition but only gay men that dress in drag for cash so they have no interest in changing their names.

both of these reasons do seem quite plausible to me

well you do realize that a legal name change has several complications if you will that even the most astute transwomen has to overcome

I often wonder this myself.

but as it ALWAYS is....to each their own. MANY people have MANY different reasons to do so.

& I have found thats just the way it is!

Both of those reasons are legit. Personally though, I just don't understand the mentality of some people.

there was another thread on this...
i havent and will not change my name because it was picked out and given to me by my mother on a trip to france to meet my fathers family.she passed away when i was young and its one of the few things i have of her left.
my name is pretty gender ambiguous anyway.

Took a gal to Macy's. She paid with her credit card. The name "James" appeared on the monitor. Instinctively I crouched down cowering behind a cosmetics display. I wasn't expecting that.

A name change is pretty easy. In my state it costs $30 and takes 4 to 6 weeks to complete.

Your name sounds more like a girl than a guy, So you are fine amberskyi. People with names like Terri, Renee, Billie can be both male or female are fine but tgirls with birth name such as James, Eric, Paul etc should change there names.

LoL I had that happen to me at a restaurant with a tgirl that I was dating.

I have no issue dating a preop tgirl. I just find it strange that a person looks and believe inside that they are female will not change their name.

What about you player?

what was her answer to this question?[quote=bluesoul/quote]

I have not ask her but will next time I see her.

In Kentucky I had to pay a filing fee (25), get a court date once my paperwork was turned in and then at the court hearing I went in front of the judge and granted the name change then I paid I think another 75. THen of course the money at the DMV to get a new license, also then went to Social Security place to file for a new card.

Of course when you apply they do a background check to make sure you arent trying to chance your name for illegal activity LOL, then when in front of the judge he asked me alot of questions.

I think with me it was a matter of just doing it and stop putting it off, thankfully I finally did it!

Some states are harder and most wont change ur gender marker. I changed mine in Illinois and got lucky at DMV they automatically changed my gender marker. But my birth certificate will always say my birth name because state I was born in doesnt allow changes. Texas is also harder for girls to change.

Its a pain in the ass to do because then you have to have all your other records changed

And frankly I dont give a fuck - its not like I go around showing my ID to everyone I say hello to. I never used my birth name since I was a child, so for me it doesn't really matter that much, didnt use it then... dont use it now...

so...keeping your boy name as a tribute to your mother is more important that completing your transition as a woman?

a name is a critical identifier for more than obvious reasons...ultimately its the only thing that is ever really you...so i do find it odd that you would rather keep something that doesn't accurately represent who you are trying to become.

for the girls (regular girls, not in the biz) that i know that have transitioned...the name change procedure and choice was highly symbolic and meaningful for them.

maybe when you are a porn star or have built a reputation with a stage/escorting name, the symbolism is less important

the symbolism behind my birth name (not boy name) is more important to me than some random name i can pick that doesnt have the same history or emotional significance.
changing my name isnt going to make me feel more like a woman.that is something that has to come from within.its kinda like how girls think getting this surgery or that surgery will validate them as being a woman but it never does if they already dont have that self validation.
like i stated before, my name is pretty gender ambiguous (meaning it doesnt sound feminine or masculine and can go both ways).if a trans woman was given a birth name like "adrian" there isnt really any need to change it in order to pass.

ps.what this whole completing your transition thing.its pretty much up to the individual girl to decide when she feels like shes reached a completion in her transition.there is no standard point at which one is like 'ahh im done now'.for some they feel completed when they get srs and for others it can be the moment they get breast implants.

I actually thought about going BACK to my old name & Gender marker...

I come from one of THREE states that DO NOT allow changes on birth certificates REGARDLESS of surgery or not. ( Tennessee ) So I will ALWAYS be male. on paper.

And the reason for converting back...I just want everything to match...I dont like having something different there.....something different here....Etc Etc.

I am sooo freakin passable its unreal....So me having Andre' on my license would not make a bit of difference.

lol...the hypocrisy.

i just asked a question based on women i know and how they feel about a name change. clearly you are just on the rag right now because you feel your inconsequential contribution to this thread is more important than anything i have to say.

amber...who the question was directed to...didn't react as poorly as you did and while she owes me no explanation, she gave me one anyway. that's how forums work...people say something and something, hopefully of value is said back. if you have nothing positive to contribute about the issue of name changing, just shut it.

back on topic because sparring with you over your idiotic post will be pointless.

what is the procedure in the UK...here in the US...is varied by state but ultimately, it, as others have said, is a few bucks and a court date.

anyone ever see Be Like Others...it is a HBO documentary about transwomen in Iran. Its really surprising to me that in a oppressive society like Iran, they promote changing names and genders on birth certificates.

well we can just change our name anytime by deedpole people for like 80pounds. but to change gender you have to be living in your role for min 2years etc ..psychiatric assessment, letter from gender doctor etc ...

i have been lazy and should have done this like in 2010 lol

They promote performing srs on anyone effeminate if not gay in general, and any transgender in particular, as soon as they can with or without the consent of the subject. Sure doesn’t have anything to do with open-mindedness…
