What the fuck's going on with the weather?

God only knows! –and well, he doesn’t exist… Quebec, which is sat on solid rock, has had a good earthquake last week. Before, there was the 5 days and nights continuous freezing rain episodes called the ice storm crisis (images bellow); three quarters of the electrical high towers were crushed, cutting all power, not to talk of the rest of the damages. Flooding (images), what have you…? Yes, Canada has been hit in late years. Fun!

Haven't you heard of climate change - created by us humans?

The quake in Quebec is nothing unusual, the region that was hit has been seismically active for a long time. Everything gets blown out of proportion this year because of the Mayan nonsense

True... two distinct things. Weather is about climate change. Earthquakes are not.
and castor is spot on re the nonsense about the mayans.

Yes, of course, gentlemen. But it's so much fun!

Waiting for the storm's arrival here on the Connecticut shore. Only some increased wind so far. Not much else to do but ride it out. Anyone further south feeling anything yet?

If I am remembering correctly, humans did not created climate change, we just made it happen more quickly. This will be my next research project. Don't hold your breath, cause it may take awhile to find again.

I found one source. Thank GOD for the internet, quicker than going to the library.

The largest earthquake observed by the White Man was the New Madrid quake in Missouri in 1811. It rang church bells on the east coast. The newer building codes (IBC2000 and later) have mapped seismic potential for all of the US. Seattle has the same force level as San Diego, but the East Coast has some seismic risk. I would estimate it as a 5.7 to 5.9 quake occurring during a 100 year period.

For wind, snow, rainstorms designers use mostly 100 year events, the storm that has 1% chance of occurring each year, but it is very possible to have 3 100 year storms in one year.

That doesn't make the hurt of going thru the event any less painful.
