View Full Version : Raped and pregnant? it's a gift from God

Well here are some more enlightened views from another new Republican. Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock who said on Tuesday that pregnancy that results from rape is “something that God intended to happen.”

He made the remarks during a debate with his Democrat rival. Mourdock defeated the longterm and moderate republican Senator Richard Lugar in a orimary earlier this year.

Romney has already distanced himself from this man (damage limitation being the latest flippy floppy ploy by the former Bain boss)

What if it's a gang rape, 30 or 40 bikers on a 15 year old girl, for instance. Is still God behind it?
What if the girl gets beaten and disfigured during rape. Is still God behind it?
What if she’s being tortured during hours or days? Is it still God?

If there was a God, he would certainly get us rid of such morons...

Let's be fair to this man. He didn't say the rape itself was God's work... merely that any baby resulting from it was. A gift. Roughly given I guess. But God works in mysterious ways so the good book says.

He said it’s something “God intended to happen”. Maybe he meant indeed the conception in itself, but to use again a totally hypothetical God to pressure someone who have suffered something as traumatic as rape to keep an infant that would constantly remind her of the events is disgusting.
You always wind up wandering why God seems so adamant to see us suffer and even, why he constantly seems so opposed to anything remotely fun… It makes quite a sorry Joe out of Him, inri… er!… I mean: imho.

Most of times babies haved from rape are unwanted or they are not loved just because brings them memorys of the rape.

Absolutely true Adriana. After the war in Bosnia there were hundreds (or was it thousands) of babies born to women who were raped by Serbian fighters.

Absolutely, Adriana! It’s terrible to pressure a woman into this, when both the child and the mother run the risk of being miserable forever after… and moreover, terrible to pressure her with the fear of an invisible, all mighty, vengeful being in the sky…

You’re right: that was a tactic of war. You plague for a generation a whole nation…

But none of the regular Republican contributors to this site. Funny that.

They are too busy listening to the wisdom of Fox News.

Next they'll be insisting Obama is a Martian.

Okay, question: How many ultraconservative sites do you regularly contribute to where you debate politics with the vast majority on a regular basis...no matter how much you'll get hammered down? ;)

...and hey, maybe you do...I'm willing to wager the average person doesn't enjoy an argu...errrr...debate all that much though.

Get hammered down by ignorance, Fred? Why would i waste my time on sites full of lies.
Meanwhile i don't think you can characterise this is a "liberal" political site. it is a ron forum primarily with some political stuff on the side.

But if I read behind the lines on your post correctly, do you represent the ultra-conservative impulse? If so please feel free to offer some cogent arguments here on the attitudes of this fellow? And on any other issues which the liberals here have raised.

This IS a porn forum where members who contribute to the political forum and, to some extent, the discussion forum are predominately liberal (Seanchai pretty much said the same thing...but that isn't even necessary) . I don't have a problem with that at all...that is the way it should be...(it already says a lot when all I did was ask a question and the post received a rating..really?).

Furthermore to "read between the lines" ,that I represent the ultra-conservative, in a simple question such as I posed comes across, at least to me, as a touch paranoid...or at the very least a tad presumptuous. While I do mostly vote Republican,I live in New York City....our local Republicans tend to be pretty moderate to say the least...when they exist at all.

I'm not sure what posts or discussions I've had in the past that would lead you to think I'm ultra-conservative...but I'd be interested to see them myself. Either that or it could be that I haven't made myself clear in some way and for that I would apologize.

As for the OP...I don't have a problem with abortion...and I'm not a Christian.

Not paranoia - just the way you asked. I was obviously not quite hitting the nail on the head. For that I apoogise.

Again though I don't quite see what point you were making. I think those of us in here of a Liberal disposition (both Americans and Brits) and indeed the fewer clearly Radical right wingers are all arguing in a forum where the silent majority are viewers who never post but who might be open to persuasion (of one point of view or another).

In one of the radical right wing forums you mention there is really no point in presenting a counter argument. Any more than if a tea party diehard tried to argue in a Liberal forum (though I suspect they would at least get listened to. The tolerance factor of liberals is, by definition, higher than that of the right wing - despite the frequent plaints here from OMK. It is the left who conceived and sustain most groups that campaign on issues of freedom of speech, human rights and civil liberties).

I believe I was looking at your post in the wrong light: it seemed,at the time, to be a bait that smacked of condescension...but in retrospect I can't blame you for trying to get some of the invisible members more involved...an effort that should be made on most forums.

I also shouldn't have used the term ultra conservative...it just seemed to be a better way to make my point....apparently I was wrong (wouldn't be the first time):)

Sorry to slightly derail the thread.

You have always come across as a fairly level headed guy. Just these ultra conservatives nut jobs are out there pushing the hell out of an agenda. And the good level headed conservatives get drowned out by the nutjobs.

To rape is human.
To conceive is divine.
