Some of you may have seen these reports online, haven't seen it yet on HungAngels. Cloud Atlas has been getting good reviews, even though Tom Hanks is in it, so it must be good!

Lana Wachowski of The Matrix and V for Vendetta filmmaking team came out as transgender many years ago, but has largely been private about her transition. She made one of her first public appearances (http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2012/07/31/618261/video-lana-wachowskis-first-public-appearance-since-transitioning/) earlier this summer to help promote the Wachowskis’ exciting new film, Cloud Atlas, due out this fall. Now, she and her brother Andy have opened up about their past for The New Yorker (http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/09/10/120910fa_fact_hemon), including details about Lana’s transition.
In the profile, Lana describes feeling like she belonged with the girls in Catholic school, and often experienced bullying because of her lack of gender conformity. But, she found “tremendous solace in books, vastly preferring imagined worlds to this world.” In the early 2000′s, Lana experienced great depression and decided with her therapist it was time to transition, and she came out to her parents. Her mother, Lynne Wachowski, was worried that she was going to lose her son to depression, but instead discovered, “there is more of you.” Lana describes getting over the hurdle of embracing the change:

WACHOWSKI: I chose to change my exteriority to bring it closer into alignment with my interiority. My biggest fears were all about losing my family. Once they accepted me, everything else has been a piece of cake. I know that many people are dying to know if I have a surgically constructed vagina or not, but I prefer to keep this information between my wife and me.
Lana Wachowski’s story will surely inspire many young people, and it also emphasizes the importance of family acceptance. Studies have shown that trans youth who are not supported by their families and who do not have the opportunity to receive affirming therapy face a higher risk for mental health problems (http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2012/03/14/430053/trans-youth-face-higher-risk-of-abuse-mental-health-problems-if-not-affirmed/). She does not owe anybody the details of her identity, but by talking openly about how she was able to right her life and find happiness, she makes it easier for others to envision the same outcome.

Nice post, Stavros! She’s encountered a lot of difficulties and is very courageous. But we can imagine how much more difficult it must be for someone less fortunate to be transsexual.
The second article you posted the link to seems every bit as interesting. Here it is for anyone who's interrested:

Lana Wachowski opens up about sex change

Moviemaker Lana Wachowski has spoken for the first time about her sex change, revealing in a candid new interview that she was initially “terrified” of losing her family.
“The Matrix” director lived as a man called Larry until 2002, and she only publicly confirmed her gender reassignment in July while promoting the new Tom Hanks film “Cloud Atlas.”
Wachowski, who divorced college sweetheart Thea Bloom in 2002 and went on to marry a second wife, has now revealed she suffered many sleepless nights as she contemplated telling her relatives about her sex change plans.
She tells the New Yorker magazine, “For years, I couldn’t even say the words transgendered or transsexual. When I began to admit it to myself, I knew I would eventually have to tell my parents and my brother and my sisters. This fact would inject such terror into me that I would not sleep for days.”
Wachowski insists she was overwhelmed by support from family members and now feels happy in her new life, adding, “I chose to change my exterior to bring it closer into alignment with my interior. … My biggest fears were all about losing my family. Once they accepted me, everything else has been a piece of cake.”
However, Wachowski is determined to keep some details of her sex change private: “I know that many people are dying to know if I have a surgically constructed vagina or not, but I prefer to keep this information between my wife and me.”

She’s like several t-women: so bright and creative. It’s as if all the hurdles and suffering was producing something deeper, intimately, I don’t know, more distance or perspective. I have a lot of admiration for that.
