I remember being woken up to see the pictures of the Moon landing the next morning and remembering it my whole life as a redeeming feature of humankind that, despite all the petty bickering and the fear which confounds human existence, this was an inspiring feat to go on and strive again the next day for something even better

Rest In Peace, Neil Armstrong

I'm just waiting for the conspiracy nuts to start with their--well--conspiracies, about how it never happened...

It was entirely fabricated. Ever see Capricorn one -- ha ha ha!

A great book about the Moon Landing is written by Norman Mailer...

One of the bravest men ever, yet very humble and decent too.
Rest in peace.

I love the moon hoax documentaries. They're quite comical.... But a lot of people do believe it was a hoax. As people believe there was a conspiracy to kill JFK and John Lennon etc., etc. -- :)

I never knew a virgin Moon.

Before first glance
I already knew of the golden splinter upon her skin.
I knew how with chisel and hammer she was pricked and prodded;
How the proud geologist claimed souvenirs of his conquest.
I have myself bounced laser beams off the mirrors left upon her still breast.

She still faithfully holds the first foot’s impression,
And the memory of all the others who have trampled her pristine surface.
She remembers everything.

Oh, this is a good documentary about the space program/moon landings. It's called: For all Mankind....

The soundtrack by Brian Eno is quite powerful:

RIP a man whose achievement can never ever been downgraded. o other human will ever be the first to step on the moon.

Isn't it strange how that wonderful time - the first men in space and then the culminating event of the first humans to walk on the moon has faded in the public imagination. Perhaps we needed to pursue that outward urge - and land on Mars. All the space station and space walks after that first landing have otherwise seemed like afterthoughts.I sense that the dream of interplanetary travel means little to anyone young these days. Am I wrong?

Many people think that we only went to the moon once…

And do you remember, Prospero, the effect of the first earth pictures from afar, from close to the moon?
Do you remember how much of a change the Apollo program have brought to people’s perspective on ourselves humans, how it made earth, our presence on earth, look like and feel like from these moments on? It’s as if we suddenly all had realized the diminutive impact of our presence to the universe, as if we suddenly all had realize that we were all in the same, minuscule boat together, floating in an eternity of nothingness, and how in the end, we all had to change our behaviour. Everybody was daydreaming, the day after the first moon landing…
I guess you’re right: we forgot very rapidly, and today, it doesn’t mean anything anymore… :(
