View Full Version : Banking your brand

I was having a conversation about porn & branding last night, and immediately after I came across this quote:

He said that “The way that the audience feels about your brand is like a bank account – you can either make deposits or you can make withdrawals.” Deposits are of course making something great that everyone really loves. A withdrawal is putting out something you know isn’t very good but you still put your name on it. He refused to ever do that.

This has kind of stuck with me since reading it. I try to follow a similar philosophy with my porn work... I try to do projects which are deposits rather than withdrawals. I've intentionally not released some content I've shot because I felt it wasn't as strong as it should be.

Here's my question to those here who make porn... do you feel that you deposit to your brand more often than you withdrawal? Have you ever not released content because it wasn't your best work?

if some of my scenes are shit, i will not put them on my paysite .. but i will chop them up into clips and sell them on my clipstores, amat sales outlets.. amazingly these vehicles sell extremely well..

for example i will take the cumshots out of crappy full scens and sell that cum shot as a 1min cumshot for £1.50 and sell like 100 copies of it in 48hours ... and thus on ..

no content is dead content , how i see it is simply Content is King, the more you have the more money you make .. its volume ... save the best stuff for you own site , but phone shot crap, clips etc not so good scenes etc , just break up and sell on a few clip sites .. you will make money back regardless .. why shoot something and make nothing ...that is time lost or wasted otherwise ..and the by product of this is simply some people will follow the links, to your profesiaonl shot content etc ..

Photos i filter out the majority of really bad pictures.. some sets you still keep in some mehhh pics to go wit hthe great pics just to bump the number of pics up in the sets ..

Shhhhh, you should im her your secret. Now that your secret is out, ohh I can't fathom the horror. (I think your legendary status as a War Hammer General will survive this secret divulging scandal.)

Hey Wendy, where have you been? I heard that you lead a revolt to take over Canada and succeeded, but felt bad about it and gave the Queen back her country. Is this rumor true?

Canada was a great trip. But like most conquests it came too easy and now i've moved on to other things... like Parcheesi.

You're stealing it from Steve Jobs... not me :geek:

The first time I heard of the concept of the trust bank was in 1998 in a McDonald's national marketing meeting. The SVP went on to talk of the concept of putting deposits in through service, cleanliness and hot food. He went on to talk about the times when withdrawals needed to be made when the media or a crusader came knocking.

The way you applied it to this industry was a unique spin on the concept, one I am going to tweak and use for my club.

Brave soul, none has survived mastering Parcheesi. I hear in the distant rural mountains near Tibet lives the only man to witness the horrific events of the man who claimed to have mastered the game. Please refrain you attempts, who knows what evil you might unleash.

I think you've confused Parcheesi with Jumanji

Jumanji is harmless, no one ever gets killed playing that overly hyped games. Wendy, I am beginning to worry about you other activies. I mean you are dressed into a sexy spy outfit brandishing a gun which I can assume is a trophy from one of your wet work victims. After entertaining yourself with your overthrow of Canada. You have set your sets on owning the internet. I am starting to think your an evil genius.

While I'm not a porn star, I believe in the same thing as a web designer.

I'm certainly not a maker of porn, but I own 2 business and that's essentially a condensed version of what every porn and non porn entity should adapt as a business plan. It sort of dovetails into a discussion some friends and I were having recently. We frequent a sea side bar and spend a fortune there on both food and drink. Good sea food , good atmosphere and hot girls all set against the background of the beach. The place is a goldmine. The other day the owner walked through the place as he often does looking like he was too busy to acknowledge any of his patrons. Someone made the observation that he never not once stops by to greet of even thank his customers. I had never really thought about it...just accepted his indifference and arrogance. The next time he hurried through the crowd, a friend grabbed him and asked him if he ever did any maintenance. Maintenance he asked...what kind of maintenance? ....CUSTOMER MAINTENENCE my friend shot back at him. He actually looked puzzled by that prospect. The point is regardless if you're making porn, running a sea side bar, or developing complicated hand held electronic devices, when you develop an apathy and indifference for your customers, you're not long for that business.

I've seen sets a few photographers have shot that will never see the light of day. I like sites that prefer quality over quantity...and I'm the same way.

I have a lot of content that once we saw it, didn't fit the criteria of the site so we shelved. It will probably resurface in a site or content delivery where it does fit the criteria at some point.
