Head bans transgender pupil from exam... so she shows him Equality Act

A TRANSGENDER pupil had to show her headmaster a copy of the Equality Act before he allowed her to sit a GCSE exam while wearing girls’ clothes.

Ashlyn Parram, 16, turned up for her first examination in tights, skirt and blazer — but was told by teachers to go home and change into the boys’ school uniform.

Wow. Creepy. A 16 year old girl, spat on, hit in the street, and then mocked and marginalized by her teachers. Not the most glorious the UK has to offer by far (and I find it personally to be a great country for anything else).

Yet, one thing that stands out is how this young woman is able to stand for herself. I’m not sure what it is about transsexual women that they so often seem to be so bright and resourceful, way above average. Might have something to do with such a harsh reality they face; they have to react to just have a life others deny them.

And going in the sun is going to make it a whole lot better.

Not the "brightest" of moves, sadly.

What do you mean, Sammi? I suppose the Sun is a very pop paper. You think they will use her or that story to sell paper? It wouldn’t be too good for the poor girl indeed. But at least they denounced that school. Is the Sun that bad?

Normally I'd agree Sammi but having just read that article I'd have to applaud The Sun (the horror, the horror) on getting the terminology and the tone of the story, spot on!

regardless of the article, i do not read the sun, it will only end up with her getting more public attention, thats how it works, she prolly lives in a dodgy area so you do the maths.

She would of better seen citizens advice and took proper action instead of a few hundred quid to be in the sun.

Good for her...and I noticed most of the comments were in support of her as well. I could only imagine the comments if this was on Yahoo or something...

Then again, might she not give the question a broad audience to judge it? She might get a large number of people to awareness. No? But of course, she would need to be very strong…

the sun is famous for using male pronouns when talking about trans girls, along the line: a man dressed in girls cloths.

... but do you have any idea how many under 18's email me directly! They get a bog standard reply, get back to me the day after you turn 18 and don't contact me until then.

Thank you, lovely Nina Lisa. So I guess seanchai was right: this time at least, reading the article, it seems that they addressed the problem rather properly. I still can’t think what this poor teen must be going through. We at times feel that at 16, one is pretty grown up but it’s wrong; it’s an age at which we’re still very impressionable. I like Valerie’s comment (post #12): it’s impressive how strong she looks, and how well she stands up for herself, but it still is very saddening. I hope this article shakes some of these morons up, somewhere...

I love ya man, but that was kind of a creepy comment... sex trade jokes about the disenfranchised seems a little predatory.

:iagree::iagree::iagree: I normally despise the Sun just as much as you, Sammi, but they must have got their only writer who doesn't have A Levels in Advanced Sexism and Primitive Morality to do the story. It's an exemplary piece of reporting.

Sammi, if the very same article had appeared word for word in say the Independent or the Guardian would you still be anti? You're always honest so I'll respect your answer.

Yep, the institution of monarchy is an embarrassing and outmoded survivor, but in terms of social advances, I'd far rather live in the UK than the US. Free medical care, all parties in favour of gay marriage, abortion available without threat. Oh, and tight gun laws.

I see your point: they read it because they have a mind for it, so what good will that do… Well, let’s hope the girl is solid. They mention in the article that her mother is fighting cancer. Probably doesn’t help… I always thought that Nietzsche’s quote, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”, was utter bullshit (forgive the French). He himself ended up as nutty as a fruitcake. But in some cases, I guess you don’t have a choice…

yes i feel sorry for the girl , I presume she was in a high school, council estate kinda lifestyle, not easy.. been there although seems she is more further into transition at 16 than i was at that age:)

just makes me sad when people end up in that rag...

One presumes if they now refer to ts as "she" it is becasue of a recent push led by a movement called transmediawatch to have us shown/referred to properly in the media.... which can only be a good thing. But IMO to educate the muppets who read the sun, then its going to take going to their level, start having TS characters in soaps or reality t.v that are not ridiculed and are infact made to look cool, witty, fun, sexy - normal. Thats how you communicate with the suns target audience, dumb it down and make us look cool, i mean the readers i imagine they are not (all)neccesarily bad people, but not the brightest in the world, hence why murdoch likes to pull strings and influence the country with his 3million voters ...

But if you read the comments below the article they are mostly sympathetic and supportive. Maybe even Sun readers are starting to see the world more broadly, despite the Murdochs' attempts to keep them focused on trash

Takes a lot of juice to make something like that happen. And progress is always slow in pop culture. I’m afraid many women will still have to suffer before things get better.

Then again, sensationalism is tricky. If there is some kind of change in the popular feeling, tables can be reversed very suddenly. You could see more and more of such articles and it could help. I suppose it’s wishful thinking, but who knows…

A week of madness, total of three deaths, four if you count the guy whose shooting by the Met police was the premise of the riots.

Adding guns to the mix would certainly have increased that modest total exponentially.

I know you're just trying to wind me up, Cec, but you'll need to do better than that. ;)

Am I the only one who thinks this girl looks a lot like Fernanda Barros? She's going to be a real looker, especially if she gets on HRT now, before puberty makes too many irreversible changes.
