I fully understand not all states allow us trans girls to change our gender marker, but all 50 states allow a legal name change. I am fortunate enough to live in Ohio and had my legal name change Dec 5th and gender marker Dec 17th. I guess my question is Why do some girls choose NOT change thier legal name/gender marker in states that allow the changes? It seems to defy logic that someone would spend so much time, money, emoational pain, ect..on transition live as woman everyday and not take the next step O_o?

LOL....when you look as good as they do....y bother!

But later when modeling aint an option no more....then they will prolly change...or it will bite them in the ass later...which ever comes first....

Working for uncle sam.......unfortunately, I never had a choice in the matter. In order to hold a security clearance....it was MANDATORY that I changed name & gender.

You set the stage for two different Q's... but seem to be asking just one.

Most states make changing ones name pretty easy... so long as can convince the judge I am not crazy, and that I am not trying to hide from the law or bill collectors, I could change my name to "Optimus Prime" tomorrow if I wanted (granted someone has already done that name (http://www.theblogblog.net/?p=617))

On the other hand... some states make changing ones legal gender easy... others require some degree of documentation from a shrink or surgeon (and proof of some level of surgery). One friend in AZ more or less committed fraud to show that she had irreversible surgery to make her a woman and so her birth certificate should be updated... in her case the surgery was FFS and she was lucky to get things updated... while another friend in PA has had an orchiectomy, but cannot get her birth certificate (and legal gender) updated until SRS.

There is an easier way (though it takes longer)... simply use the name as your legal name... I've a co-worker who I recently discovered has a badge with a name to the effect of "EW Smith" (not his actual name, but the format is the same), which I found odd because the company never allows nicknames on employee badges. Upon further chatting I learned that his passport, driver's license, Social Security card, bank accounts, virtually every piece of official documentation related to him for the last 20+ some years (he's far older than that) bares that name.

While is birth certificate, high school and college transcripts/degrees bare his birth/official legal name... he has in effect created a second legal name for himself, simply by using the new name for an extended period of time... something I suspect a TS gal could do easy enough... of course updating ones legal gender is most useful for things like legal access to a given bathroom, marriage rights, and which sort of inmates one would be housed with if arrested.

To answer your Q: Changing this or that depends on what you can change... and without knowing in what state they are trying to change things (and from what state the original documents are from)... it's hard to know why they don't change such things.

Is this your way of reminding us that you got your license changed? Does that validate you much?! Just sayin'. ;)

Great responce Bob! I agree with the above paragraph whole heartly. The idea that girls want to 'wait' to they get srs does not hold water, because you are foregoing legal proctetion as a female while still trying to live as one.

Bella I am not looking for validation here just asking a serious question. I know this is a raw subject for alot girls, but as you well know many girls choose not too even though their states allow it. I had a conversation with a friend recently who has lived full time as 'Carrie' for 13mo, but refuses to change her documentation until srs. To me this defies logic, because she is foregoing current legal protections too wait unti she reaches her 'ideal self'. Too me this is as bad of an idea as playing russian roulette with a loaded gun! Just sayin ;)

One might be too lazy so they don't do it. if you are escorting you don't to change your name or gender to get a job, but when it come to normal jobs, i've heard many girls saying it was really hard for them to find any job before they made the change (so my guess the financial situation/work can have an influence).
