New series in Britain... its about a pre-op transsexual assassin. Would have liked if they actually had a real transsexual get the role! :yayo:

they probably couldn't find one that could act. plus it will be much easier to get the general public to watch it if they know it is a GG playing pretend.

There are several transgendered actresses - so they have no excuse. It will be interesting though to see how honest and accurate it is about transexuality. There is one greek film i saw abut two years ago which used a great pre-operative transexual actress though I don't know if she speaks English.

Actress Chloe Sevigny says to research the role of Mia she met with several women who had transitioned and read many books. In the programme she wears prosthetic genitalia for nude scenes. Strewth.

But why does she have to be an assassin? Are ts natural born killers? The risk is that from the 'sexual profiling' of ts in terms of Porn, Pot and Prostitution, we now add, Psycho...Michael Caine in Dressed to Kill, whoever the drag queen was in Red Spider, Norman Bates in Hitchcock's sick over-rated film Psycho, and so on. A transgendered lawyer? A transgendered doctor? A Transgendered politician? Whatever next, a transgendered hair stylist? Is it possible for anyone to think up a new tv drama programme that doesn't involve killing?

Hollywood never cares as long as there is a profit. They will take an actor whose name sells. They don't care who the actor protrays. It comes down to the almighty dollar that determines who plays what.

Yes - it seems we've not really moved on from when Hollywood would get white actors and black them up for ethnic minority roles. Ben Kingsley as Gandhi for instance.

Just saw this show, youre reading way way way too much into things, or havent seen it at all.

The show portrays it as just merely her job. She doesnt seem to like killing. Its just her job and income. The show doesnt even center around the fact that she is a hired killer. Its rather about her day to day being. Family, friends and surroundings plays a much more vital role in the show.

I really hope your voice never gets heard, cause then there wouldnt be any interesting spins created.
Its a story, not a portrait of all transexuals. On top of that, it actually FITS the storyline very well.
They wanted to portray a person on the fringe of society getting back into it.

Yeah, it was just an extra facet to the story - the main drive came from her interaction with 'normality' after such a long period of alienation...

Some interesting ideas and good performances, but could have been better!

Chloe Sevigny was great. As much as I'd like to have seen a real transwoman in the role, what we've seen of the acting in TransRomantic makes me dubious of the talent out there (lol)

There was good acting by Ms Sevigny for sure... but the concept was too complex for the writers and I guessed before the end of the series that they had no way to tie up all the loose ends - and come up with a satisfactory conclusion. So the open-ended conclusion was rather predictable.
