I've been stressed out lately with my personal life. Just wondering how people on this site deals with stress. Any suggestions are helpful.

it all depends on the situation...no idea what youre up against

i come here to bitch at people. otherwise, lots of sex and masturbation...my work has been really time consuming lately and because of the nature of it...i have had odd hours so the wife and i fit it in wherever possible at any given moment.

Ok warning this is serious advice as opposed to my usual everythings a joke... etc and shit like that :D

The above is basiscally CBT, good advice. "cognitive behavioral therapy"

It is extremely worth looking into this and helping yourself deal with stress, anxiety etc. The mind is very powerful but you can help yourself, sure drugs,drink and other distractions seem to help and are more fun but they are not really the answer, nor really is being prescribed legal drugs, they have been proven less effective in the UK which is why the NHS vastly increased the amount of CBT trained people in the system via the Primary Care Trust. It helped me a lot. I realise you guys do stuff differently but I would assume this method is popular over the pond as well :)

listen to music, but music that is mood neutral .... and read a book somthing fantasy that grips you .. takes your mind away from life ....

I usually put on a jazz album (Herbie Hancock and Grover Washington Jr come to mind), I'll pull out a book (I have a collection of MAD Magazine reprints that always lifts my spirits), I'll search YouTube for funny clips, and of course good old fashioned SEX.

A couple of pictures of beautiful women can do wonders for the mind...

If you go to a therapist they'll give you XANAX, or LEXAPRO or something like that, short term, then you will go into the CBT that Sammi talked about.

If it's just normal stress everybody deals with in their day to day lives..for me, a good movie, music and weed usually does the trick, at least so that I can calm down and later on assess the situation properly.

If it's a continual problem...then you might need to really talk it out with someone. Sometimes a therapist can help.

Music, movies (stupid ones that don't require much thought), easy-read books (like crime fiction or fantasy), long walks alone. Or confront whatever is creating the stress and eliminate it.

For me it used to be football, watching or playing. But I gave up my season ticket, a couple of years ago and then snapped several tendons in my knee and cant play anymore!

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I will try some of them especially the mediation, yoga, and I look into CBT that Sammi was talking about. Perhaps I just need to examine what causes me to stress and just fix it. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Lots of fresh air, walks, exercise, make yourself good homemade food, yoga (as mentioned) read a good book. Find inexpensive ways to de-stress. I would caution against drugs & too much alcohol. They can and tend to exacerbate the stressed mood you might be in. Oh............and get some hot sex, that always helps.
