It all depends on the denomination you belong to. Most protestant churches recognize that Paul had some rather strong, "out there" teachings regarding sex. Paul was of the belief the second coming would happen in his lifetime and that sex, even IN a marriage should be avoided. He grudgingly said, if you are going to have sex then get married. Had the church strictly followed his teachings there would likely be no church today :)
