Captain America made the list of your favorite movies of all time? Really?

yes and i'm waiting on the avengers

Don't get me wrong, I'll see just about any comic superhero movie that comes out, and I'm totally psyched to see The Avengers (it opens here in the US in like 5 weeks). I saw Captain America, and it wasn't bad. I was just curious that a movie that has only been out for like 8 months in the US, and probably even less time in Europe, made your list of all-time favorites.

Rather than list as I have done already the directors and films I most admire as a total film experience, here are some films which are favourites but which cannot match the depth and artisty of the works of Ozu, Bergman, Bresson, and Tarkovsky.

Bullitt (Peter Yates, nineteen sixty-eight)
The French Connection I (William Friedkin, 1971)
The Driver (Walter Hill, nineteen seventy-eight)
(three films with mesmerising car chases, but which are also superbly directed and acted, with tight scripts and which, above all, tell a story that bears repeated viewing).

The Bourne Trilogy
The presence of Brian Cox and Albert Finney with their awful American accents is a major flaw in the trilogy but as action-adventure films also with thrilling car chases the Bourne films are great entertainment. The first Bourne film was made with Richard Chamberlain in 1988, I have never seen it so don't know how it compares to the later version.

Clint Eastwood -I have no sympathy with the politics or the violence, but the Dollars films, the Dirty Harry films, and particularly Play Misty for Me (1971), are all examples of story telling with a minimum of fuss, a lot of concentration, and outstanding scripts and acting.

Mission Impossible I-IV -though uneven in quality, these films are a great way to pass the time.

Great choices. Include "To Live and Die in LA" as one awesome car chase also (Friedkin again)

We have similar tastes. Add for me "Once Upon a Time in the West" as the best of the Dollar films (without Clint) and of course "Unforgiven" anchoring the violence of the Dollar films in a bit more reality.

Others:
Once Up a Time in America (Leone's second finest film)
Get Carter (original)
Angel Heart
The Name of the Rose
Cinema Paradiso
Jean De Florette/Manon de Sources
Kingpin (greatest comedy of all time)

spaceballs is the funniest movie ever made and i can recite every line without even watching it.

i don't really like romcom stuff...boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy finds girl in the rain, boy cries, its implied that boy gets blowjob...too standard.

i like horror stuff...just not enough to include it on a favorites list.

I've been on a waiting list to rent from adultdvdempire.com for this movie; has anyone seen it? It looks smokin' hot, and I have been impatiently waiting; really, I can't wait to see it!!!:( My motivation is the cum drinking, ass-drilling T-girl on the cover! I suspect that this is the reason for the such a long wait!

Okay, I've finally seen the movie that I waited for with deep anticipation. I didn't recognize Carmen Cruz on the cover as the TS that appeared to be drinking cum, and busting ass! She definitely rose to the occasion, unfortunately there was no cum drinking, the fluid was saliva, but she did drill into dude's asshole. Much of the DVD was retro, but that was okay, it was all good. I would rate the disk as a 7.5. My general pleasure is driven from feminine looking TS's that that top, but fuck the hell outta their men! This one was close, but there wasn't as much punishment as I anticipated!?! I liken SM sex to action adventure movies, but that's just my S&M mentality!

Peace,

Vic.

Too many to name.
Well, Blade Runner. A lot of sci fi stuff. I remember liking Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie Predator as a kid. Saw it recently. Couldn't watch it. Thought it was pretty bad. Well, your tastes change, eh.
I really liked Donnie Darko.
I mostly follow directors. I like a lot of John Carpenter's stuff and Tobe Hooper. (Albeit Tobe Hooper didn't do anything as good as his seminal film Texas Chainsaw.)
I liked the Godfather Part II.
Difficult to come up with a concise list though -- ha ha!

I missed this one. It's a good point. I guess it stems from growing up in Los Angeles and knowing that despite the fact that it's a sprawling mess of a city, it was once a barren desert. So, it seems like such a mysterious thing when you find out that these powerful men are wrangling over (and killing over) water rights of all things. I also liked the mood of the film, as a modern noir where the police are cynically corrupt and one tycoon controls the entire fate of the city. I tend to like a lot of noirs for the simple reason that everything is inexplicably shrouded in mystery and people's behavior is much cooler and more suave than it ever could be in real life. But it's one of those movies that if I recommended it to someone I couldn't be sure they wouldn't tell me it was boring. As I am sure you know, it's a slow movie.

I also have always thought Jack Nicholson was a bit overrated. Those who think he's a great actor cannot explain to me what it is about him that's appealing. He always comes across as strange to me. When Daniel Day Lewis plays eccentric, I find his character compelling. When Jack Nicholson does the same, I find him implausible or bizarre.

Chainsaw Massacre was the best but Hooper also directed other good films such as Salem's Lot and Poltergeist plus some fun ones like Eaten Alive, The Funhouse, TCM2, Toolbox Murders(remake), and a couple episodes of Masters Of Horror.

Loved Bullitt, loved French Connection, never seen The Driver but will look into it. When I was a kid I read The Bourne Identity, and it was the only Ludlum book I read. It was pretty exciting. I found the version with Richard Chamberlain was pretty right on the money and true to the book. The Hollywood version was not at all. They both kept me entertained. I saw the one with Richard Chamberlain on television and I remember it being extremely long though.

I tend to follow particular Directors, even if their oeuvre can be somewhat uneven in quality, so most films by Louis Malle, Truffaut, Polanski, Kubrick, John Ford, Haneke, Christopher Nolan, Scorsese, Robert Altman, David Lean, Herzog, the Coen brothers, Peter Weir.

My favourite film of all is Kubrick's Paths of Glory, made in black and white in 1956. He never surpassed it.

It's funny, I am not a huge movie buff, but I was talking to someone who is a Kubrick fan and I told them that I really liked the movie the Killing. It was an early Kubrick that reminded me a bit of some scenes from Reservoir Dogs (I know I should be saying that the other way around). I was shocked they hadn't seen it. Now here I go, haven't seen Paths of Glory. I'll have to take a look at it.
