View Full Version : Tired of ts girls escorting? HELP ME GO BACK TO COLLEGE!!!!

RubyTS

Hi people. I've read a lot about guys being upset that most ts girls are escorts. I myself am, and i am trying to get out of the life. But the best way i know to make the money is to use what i have in order to get what want. I've opened a new yahoo group which u can take a look at. Mainly for the pupose of getting myself back on a legitimate track of life.

I've been in college before, but was unable to continue my studies due to money issues. I am a very talented artist and i love to design. I majored in Fashio at the Art Institute of NYC and would really enjoy going back. Finding work without a college degree (especially being a transgendered individual) is not at ALL easy. Even if the employer cannot tell (i have my name change and all) it's bound to slip sooner or later, and of course even though the law prohibits discrimination in the workplace, WE ALL KNOW it happens EVERYDAY!!!

I'm in the process of legal changes and looking for a job at the same time myself. Graduate in 3 more months, shudder. Wish you the best going back to college and finding a job that you can thrive at.

you can get student loans. Most college students are broke and have to eat Ramen noodles and other bullshit. Also after school if you look into getting a job in the public sector (government) it will be extremely difficult and not in their best interest to discriminate against you. Private sector can fire people for any fucking reason.

That's not always true Ruby. I know a girl who is college educated and has a great job and she told me the opposite. She said that they probably would be afraid to fire her because she is transgendered. Although she was well qualified, she thinks being transgendered may have helped her get the job. So it can work the other way too!

So you're tired of escorting and you wanna go back to school.... I guess that applying for a job... yes, the kind that students usually get...applying for grants. etc is too much work...I'd love to introduce you to some of the people from the former USSR, Latih America, and the USA that I've worked with that juggle two or three jobs...what a crock of shit... :violin

You've got some nerve. Why is it there's alway that 1 person with shit spilling out their mouth. U try living a day in my shoes and see how easy it is!!! In the meantime, if u have conacts that could help, instead of being such a negative ass, why dont u put ur "knowledge" to good use!

You are an admirable lady, Ruby!

I have a few friends who dablled in the escort business and I know the money is good. Walking away from the "business", to finish school doesn't necessarily mean you will be financially stable. Obviously, you seek more than money out of life and I applaud you for that.

Good luck in your future.

hehe, I wouldn't say anything pro or con regarding going back to school for art or design or whatever. I never went to college myself, never even graduated high school (the bastards kicked me out, twice!) and I've had people working under me that had masters degrees. Well, one guy did, but lots of art school grads as well.

It's all about networking as far as an artsy sorta pursuit goes. That's just what I've seen. Go to the right parties, meet the right people.

It sounds pretty predestrian, but that's really how the game works.

lol @ the jewish guy

Yeah design is definately a hard industry to break into. But i am confident in my skills, as were my teachers. In a class of about 30, i as my teacher's "wild child." Ms. spence was awesome. Told me i was her star and she see's me making it big. She was very disappointed in my having to leave

Artist don't go to class, they make art.

Of course ya gotta pay the bills so worry about that first. But art classes will teach you nothing. It's not a science, it's art.

You gotta interpret that for yourself.

hondarobot don't you work (manage) in a club?

so you have people working under you who aren't actually working as artists or designers.

if we were talking about fine arts i might agree

Ruby I know at least 4 girls who are fashion designers (all with BFA's) and everyone who works for them as designers has a degree in fashion from either FIT, Pratt, Parsons or RISD.

So stay the course girl and get back to school. I wish you luck.

Well, of course, I'm not advocating her not going back to school if that's what she want's to do.

But if someone is pursuing a form of art, then a structured enviroment, which is dictated by teachers who have not themselves "made it" as artists themselves, is something to take into consideration.

That's all I'm saying. Classes aren't free, judge the merits of paying for something that might not be possible to be taught on it's own merits.

Art might be something that can't be taught, it might just be something that is or isn't.

Making contacts, breaking the mold, and just fucking going for it is what artist have always done, it defines the form.

But, like I said, make sure you can pay the bills.

Good luck, Ruby. It's hard to make a good living depending on your background and skills. I earned a Master's Degree in English with a 4.0 GPA and a Fellowship, and that and 85 cents gets me a cuppa coffee--but I'm glad I did it. I kicked around teaching college as adjunct faculty for years, then picked up a "Teach Youself HTML in 14 Days" book in 1995, got turned on to web design, and have been making a decent living ever since. I don't get to charge $200-300/hr, but my rate is pretty good and that's all I need right now.

Anyway, good luck.

your perception of how school works as someone who didn't go to school is interesting but totally wrong.

so in your example then even if i went to an Ivy league school then I'd only be learning with people who were failures at their chosen field.

school is an amazing place to grow, think, and find your style. this may be even more true for an art school as you are immersed with like minded people everyday. there are very many very successful people who teach at schools in New York.

first you have to be able to get into the network. school is an investment and will open up the doors to the network much more so than anything else.

hondarobot

I agree, there are many benefits to going to school and meeting like minded people, Hillbilly.

I guess I have nothing more to add, I didn't go so I don't know.

If I had gone to college, I would have partied even more then I ordinarily did, and would have been left with a bill I didn't even remember racking up.

But that's just me. I'm not being a jerk, I'm being honest.

Going to college is NOT about developing some marketable skill. In fact, that attitude is what is wrong with higher education in America today. So many kids, rush into college to get business degree that they never take time to learn analytical thought.

In short, college is a time to learn to think, to study the classics, gain social skills and to grow as a person.

Good Luck with school Ruby !

Hondarobot is right about networking. From my own experiences and those of others...who you know is just as important as what you know. I've worked with enough idiots to see it firsthand.....but getting that degree can help you wedge your foot in the door so to speak.
Once you get that piece of paper no one can take it from you. But what you do once you have it is up to you. At the very least a degree says you met the academic requirements of that particular institution. They're are tons of shitheads walking around with degrees.

I have two degrees...and it has definitely helped...but I'm an engineer so I kind of have to know the building I design wont fall down...LOL !
I also have alot of "artist" friends and the vast majority have degrees of one kind or another. But I also know people with no college degrees who are very successful.

I'm sure you will be successful in whatever you do. Good Luck !

A BA program cost $2175.00 per semester at FIT. That's assuming you have NYS residency. That's only 20 tricks @ $200 per session. Methinks you are full of excuses.

WOW im surprised by all the replies. thank u everyone. And i mush echo some words which were already said about college. Fashion design and art are skills... Yes.. Not somethig u can JUST learn. But proper clothing construction, patternmaking and fashion history are things and designer SHOULD know. I dont ONLY sketch. I create. I build from the ground up. And school is also very necessary for networking and contacts. Fashion week at Bryant park always has fashion student from various schools present to help and learn. I have to say that even though i owe my student loans about $11,000 i learned a lot, i met a lot of cool people, and it was a very interesting and fulfilling time of my life where i felt i was working towards a positive future for myself. And EVERYONE liked me and believed in me and my skills. I am DYING to go back and continue my dream and make people proud of me. I want to utilize more than just my body, and put my skills and god given gifts to good use :)

FINALLY...

Ruby, I don't post much but I always look for a girl that wants to make a difference.. I have no problem with a girl that escorts, my girl did just that.. My baby escorted for a year before she took her crappy book to a top modeling agency in Italy and they said yes. She made an incredible living and she never looked back. Everytime a story about another girl came on t.v. she dropped everything she was doing to listen, she never stopped believing another girl could walk away. Don't stop - chase everything you have to move on with your life, don't wait for some fool to take you away. He will want you more if you have aspirations trust me. I chased my baby forever before she gave me a minute and when I got her I never let go... She passed away in an accident and my heart will always beat irregular... I'm still lost on what I want - t-girls? I still search for her in some other girl...

WOW thats sad. im really sorry to hear that. I hope someday a light shines down on u and u can meet another lady just as special as her.

As for me, i know i am destined for much greater things. I've known that all my life, and every SINGLE person i meet says the same thing. This is not the life 4 me. I'm meant to do something BIG... and i will. I just need a little shove sometimes. And i dont mind asking for a little help. :)

In my opinion fashion design is poop. If you good with business then you will get further. The main thing about fashion is that the stuff sell no matter how good or bad a garment is. If a great garment doesnt sell then its not good. If a poop garment sells then its great. Im not just saying this, I would rather reccomend taking business courses at FIT. Fashion history, garment construction is just a waste of money. Another thing about fashion people is that they are two-faces and major backstabbers and the industry tends to spit out people a lot. I speak with credibility. By the way, I have a couple of fashion textbooks that I need to get cleared ASAP.

ok, u make a valid point. But if i did anything else it would defeat the purpose of me following my dream, which is to make it BIG in the fashion industry. I dont want to do ANYTHING ellse other than design. its my passion and the effort and work i put into my work really shows. The pieces u see on runway is overdramatic. It depicts what is "in." And even though u may not notice, it actually does follow thru in daily fashion, only tamed down. I personally design clubwear, sexy lingere, and elegant/slutty gowns. Everyone has been impressed by my work, and my style of art as well

People were and are impressed by my designs as well but I have yet to see a single dollar from them. But the best of luck to you, because without luck its almost impossible in fashion.

Dear Ruby, Good Luck.

My wife is college graduate who happens to be transexual (post op). I am so amazed by the will that she has, when she decides to do something it always gets done.

I know the world is cruel, but if keep trying you will suceed.

Just a curiosity: Have you considered artist/inking in the comic/graphic industry as a sideline until you get your fashion gig going? I know you like the genre. Hell, you're right there with W/DC and MCG. Go kick some fanboy butt. :)

Life has its turns. I had a roommate for a couple of years who was very into the comic thing, did lots of sketches, wrote scripts. Ended up working in a framing shop for a bit.

Big whoop.

Couple years down the road, he ends up in NYC scripting Peter Parker and elbowing with Chris Claremont.

Go figure. There's no accounting for taste.
