ACTUALLY, Lemme show you how this young black man breaks it down.

I live in Crown Heights BK in my own 3 family house (lil early christmas present to my self last year, instead of a Lexus). I live in the ground unit, rent out the two top units (2 bedroom, 2 bath a piece) for a tidy sum that allows me to only contribute about $700 out of pocket to my mthly mortgage payment, all the while my property value conitnues to grow ( thanks to the eminent Brooklyn Nets Stadium among other factors).

I drive a modest vehicle courtesy of my company, a 2006 Ford Fusion, all expenses paid for, gas card, insurance, the works, I ding it, I take it to body shop, Enterprise pics me up with another car and I'm off. ALL courtesy my ever loving company (one of top 3 pharm companies in the world).

My citigold acct looks pretty stable, go into your neighborhood citibank and enquire about the type of balances one needs to have a citigold acct. Once again thanks to the hefty quarterly bonuses I make at my ever loving company, on top of my base salary.

All 3 yrs after graduating college. So at 26 I think , no fuck it, I KNOW I'm doing pretty damn well. and oh, school loans u may ask, well no, debt free thanks to that 1310 SAT score I made that secured me a free ride to Howard U.

Oh when I retire at age 35 to manage my real estate and move to Trinidad and Tobago, then I'll buy that yacht.

This is one young black dude you won't find wasting time, showing off, yes maybe a little.

smh, Lexus, psssh, that shit start DEPRECIATING the second I roll it off the lot. I'd rather nave my money WORK For me than work for that shit.

the nice version: ur young, ambituous, alot better than most thugs ur age and are probably making ur parents proud...

the honest version: u live in a shitty neighborhood, boast about subpar accomplishments and obviously hang around with total losers...

i graduated law school at 23, scored 165 on my LSATs and never borrowed a penny or owe a penny to my jewish parents or anyone, that im proud of...youlle never see me boast about my salary, vehicles or anything...where i come from, if ur not making 7 figures yet show off, ur a loser, and if u are making it and show off ur a dick...neither are too much fun to be around...

thats how this jewish boy breaks it down...

 MAN , you seem real full of hate, it's actually amusing. It's people with your mentality that help me to succeed, I took notice of how you called me a "thug" jewish boy. Once again your bitterness and hate affords you that judgemental mentality, it's shamelful and pitiful all at once.

It hurts your soul to see a successfull young blk man doesn't it, AND I LOVE IT.

Don't catch a coronary with all your bitterness dude, seems like you are really unhappy with yourself. Ask your doc about considering Paxil CR for that, it may be depression.

And oh this is the great part...... "the shitty neighborhood" I live in like I said previously is CROWN HEIGHTS, it's just off of Empire Blvd, 95% of my neighbors are Jews, stop by sometime on your walk to Temple.

I'm done wasting time with your negativity.

[quote="BKghost"][quote=J] ...oh, and the money thing...that we never lose...

true story. does anybody know any poor jews? (my tongue also planted firmly in cheek).

btw, in your own way J, that last post was very nice. But I do take issue with your statement that "most" white people want to see blacks fail. I agree there are white people that feel that way but I don't think it is "most" white people. There's probably a lot that are indifferent, but I don't think most white people actively want blacks to fail. But, of course, i'm a white male and can't possibly understand what a black man or woman goes through; how they are treated both real and perceived. That's why I always treat everyone with respect because I don't what it feels like to walk in their shoes. But if I listen to them, I may learn something and be the better for it.

robbie
02-27-2006, 07:41 PM
robbie, good stuff and ur breaking the fuckin rookie mold, ur actually insightful in ur posts and actually cointribute...

BUT....i must disagree, i will stand by my statement that MOST white people still have a certain degree of prejudice with regards to the success of minorities...just like i honestly believe that most white people would have a problem if their daughters came home with a black boyfriend...in fact, being a very outspoken white boy i think i have a better feel of it than a black person does because i get to hear or see what the white guys say when the black guy isnt around...its what makes the following joke funny, yet true...

Q when does a black guy turn into a nigger?

A as soon as he leaves the room!

in my mind, if ur white and are not liberal, u dont like black people, i dont care what u say, thats at least what ill assume until it can be proven to me otherwise...religious conservatism is just a nice way of saying i hate em, but not because i want to, but because im told to by this old book that justifies killing homos and enslaving blacks...shame on them but an even bigger shame on religious black people who have somehow not only OKed this hateful book that has kept them down for centuries, but have become some of its biggest proponents...so sad...

First, thanks for the compliment.

Second, based on this last post from you, I think we're still a bit at odds, but a little closer to agreement on the issue of how white's feel towards blacks. In your first post you indicated that most whites want to see blacks fail. That's where I disagree. In your last post, you say that, "MOST white people still have a certain degree of prejudice with regards to the success of minorities." I think the two statements are different. The first suggests to me that whites actively seek the failure of blacks (and other minorities). The second, seems a bit softer, more like they certainly don't support or applaud their success, but they aren't blocking it either. I still think that's a little harsh, but closer to my thought that it's more indifference to their success than seeking their failure. For example, I think whites in general are fine when blacks succeed, on the white man's terms. It's when they "act black" that many white people start feeling uncomforable with their success. I think there's just alot of ignorance and indifference out there. I had a friend once say, "I love Oprah, except when she starts acting all black." And I said, "but... she is black. How do you want her to act?" And she had no answer for me, she just didn't like the "black thing." She's not a mean spirited person, she's just a bit ignorant in this regard.

You're right about the daughter bringing home a black man argument. I think even the most ardent white Liberal would have have a problem with that at least initially. There are many reasons for that. Some are just plain prejudiced. For others it would expose deep seeded prejudices that they thought they had repressed. And others would want to protect their daughter from the prejudices she will face from society as a result. Me, I have three sons. As open as I am to people of all races, if any of them came home with a black girlfriend, I'm sure I would be a bit taken a back at first, but would collect myself and be comfortable in my confidence in their judgment and my desire for their happiness. I can only hope if ever faced with that kind of situation, my actions would support my words.

I don't agree with your statement that, "unless you are liberal you don't like black people." First, I hate to be pigeon holed like that. And I don't think you can make such general statements about people. I'm a New York Republican - a "Rockefeller" Republican if you will. I suppose that makes me liberal on many issues - especially social issues - but conservative on others. I am not a "right winger" nor am I a "bleeding heart liberal." And I like people of all races, just as there are people of all races I don't much care for too.

Last, I don't think there is a problem with the book. The problem is with how some choose to twist its meaning to say things that just aren't there.

hey robbie nice stuff up untill the last paragraph, nothing in this world angers me more than the old its not the book but what people do with it routine...ur kidding me right? what part of homosexuals must be stoned to death has been twisted? in what context is that a justifiable statement? how bout the regulation of slavery? how was that misinterpreted? wouldnt u think that an all knowing book of ethics and morals written or at least influenced by divinity would be all out against slavery? not only doesnt the book say its not an ok practice, but it actually gives rules for regulating slaves....odd...i can go on forever about murder, deciet, lies and just flat out ridiculous stories in the book, but whats the point...and please dont give me the old it has good moral values as welll, u must choose blah blah...hitler had a good tax plan, doesnt mean u should aplaud mein kampf for the meritable portions...

ok, as to things we may be able to agree on or at least debate;) i think the whole white people not liking "black things" by blacks is blatant racism disguised, once again, just like using the book to justify hating gay people...these people hate em and just use religion as the excuse...similarly, these people hate blacks and blame it on the black thing....its enraging to me when i see bill oreily freaked out that black kids dont speak properly and have their own slang, he tries to portray genuine dispair because they wont get jobs, blah blah, he just hates black people and thinks this is a convenient way of cloaking his racism...u dont see him having pieces about southern boys saying y'all and not enunciating properly...where is his piece on jeff foxworthy and how his redneck routine is keep southern kids down and unemployed? eh? i dont think he will have tim mcgraw or garth brooks on and grill them like he does puff daddy or other successful blacks on why they dont speak up on certain black issues...god i hate fuckin conservatives/hatefull people....

and for the record, when i speak of my disdain for conservatives, i mean solely social conservatism, i dont care what u are fiscally, as i dont think it has an implication on hate or prejudice...so in my mind ur a liberal, as is guliani, or arnold, etc...

either way, good stuff, and thanx for looking beyond my tone...some here seem incapable of that...perhaps u grew up watching morton downy jr too;)

Problem with your tone? Fuck em if they can't take a joke.

As for your first paragraph, whoa! did I step into this one... Well, I don't know if I can dig my way out -- and I may just be digging in deeper, but I'll employ the help of a few literary geniuses to help me try to explain. Your argument is not without some merit - actually, it has tremendous merit - that is, your beliefs are your beliefs. And mine our mine...

"It is a fine thing to establish one's own religion in one's heart, not to be dependent on tradition and second-hand ideals. Life will seem to you, later, not a lesser, but a greater thing."
- D.H. Lawrence

And one's religous beliefs should not go unexamined:

In religion and politics people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination, from authorities who have not themselves examined the questions at issue but have taken them at second-hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions about them were not worth a brass farthing.
- Autobiography of Mark Twain

And last, beware the man who cites scripture:

The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose.
-William Shakespeare

There are so many more good quotes on religion. As for me, I am a Christian. I believe in God and I attend church regularly. My beliefs are founded in my Episcopal education. I have examined what the Church offers and have accepted what I believe is right and have challenged what I believe is wrong. I believe in freedom of speech and freedom of religion. I am not gay -- no, really :) and I don't hate homosexuals or believe they should be stoned or any other modern equivalent. I am heartened that the Church I was raised in has accepted gay clergy (though admittedly not with out opposition). To add some fuel to the fire, I believe abortion is wrong, but accept that a woman has a certain right to control her body. I also believe in carefully regulated euthenasia and capital punishment. Regarding the former, dignified people deserve to die with dignity and as regards the latter, some dirty rotten bastards just plain deserve to die.

I am not a "perfect" Christian, nor am I a perfect person.

The point is, it's not about one's particular brand of religion, it's about how one lives his/her life and how they treat others. And if religion helps one cope; helps to guide them; helps make them a better person; an honest and fair person; a person who does not pre-judge his fellow man; a person who contributes positively to his family, friends and society, then that religion can't be a bad thing.
