AVN has released there official statement for the public to see. What I have copied here was originally posted on AVN.com (http://business.avn.com/articles/video/Transsexual-Reps-AVN-Meet-to-Discuss-Award-Show-Issues-463961.html).

CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Last Thursday representatives from the transsexual performer community met with AVN to air their grievances that emanated from the AVN Awards show last month.

A small but vocal number of performers in the transsexual genre had voiced displeasure over their experiences at the AVN Awards and the preceding red carpet—as well as, in the big picture, how they were dissatisfied with the recognition given to the transsexual genre as a whole.

Performer and long-time TS rights activist Brittany St. Jordan had authored a handful of message board threads airing her complaints. St. Jordan, along with Amy Daly in person, and Wendy Williams by phone—all three were nominees for Transsexual Performer of the Year—met with AVN.

Since there were a number of factually incorrect statements in St. Jordan’s posts, but also because there were legitimate complaints, AVN sought to set the record straight, to listen, and to proactively address any issues going forward.

AVN has long recognized the transsexual niche as an important and lucrative market segment and if there was more to be done to support the community, we wanted to hear directly from the performers how we could recognize their efforts on a bigger stage.

To that end, AVN agreed to present Transsexual Performer of the Year on stage at future awards shows. St. Jordan, Daly and Williams were correct to point out that this award is the most prestigious given by AVN to transsexual performers, and it wasn’t receiving the same visibility as its male and female equivalents.

As for the awards nominations and voting, AVN also agreed to cast its net wider and seek out prominent reviewers and observers of transsexual fare to participate in the process for a more comprehensive review of its performers and movies.

Also, AVN will take steps to make sure that transsexual performers are included as presenters in future awards shows, and that more attention is paid to red carpet interviews with TS performers.

As for the red carpet process, which was called into question, AVN sought to clear up some confusion. Priority access goes to presenters, nominees whose awards will be presented on stage, mainstream celebrities and some other very well-known adult stars, with the rest of the adult community following after that.

Unfortunately, with hundreds of people waiting in line to walk the carpet, inevitably there will be a considerable waiting time for most. This year, the wait was longer than anticipated, and AVN apologizes to all who waited and thanks them for their participation and patience. AVN is looking into streamlining the process for next year to cut down on the wait time. We know it’s aggravating to stand in line for so long—we hear you!—and we’re going to make it more reasonable.

The meeting lasted nearly 90 minutes; many issues were aired and discussed, and St. Jordan, Daly and Williams left the meeting apparently hopeful that transsexual performers will be given higher visibility in both AVN magazine and at the AEE and AVN Awards.

I'm curious Britt (Amy, Wendy) I'm not referring to the text of the letter here...
I'm guessing these folks know how to play the politically correct games well as anyone...but sitting across the table from them....did you get the impression they seriously understood their shortcomings....or was it just lip service? Suddenly they had a V8 moment?

A little of both. When they would try to pull the proverbial wool over us Wendy would be there to give the facts to keep them from doing so. Amy had her points that she made as well and with all three of us there we made a most effective team. That is what this is about, Team Tranny. We shall chalk this one up as a victory for us all ;)

Like I said before. This wouldn't of happened with out Brittany doing what she did, but all the follow up from everyone else after really pushed AVN to do something about it. With out both, nothing would of happened, but Brittany go the ball rolling, which I think is commendable.

Brittany Summed it up pretty well. The meeting was largely back and forward with all 3 of us sitting at the table with the whole AVN staff from the owner to the reviewers. They listened to everything we had to say and it went quite well.

One thing that I am disappointed that didn't make it in to the press release was that there was an issue getting Transsexual Ads put on the front of AVN sales web sites. Originally someone had told a company that they would not allow TS ads on the front page, but after discussing in the meeting, they said that was never the case and advertisers are welcome to purchase ad space for transsexual releases on AVN's front pages.

What AVN asked for in return was that the transsexual community show a little more support for AVN since it is a two way street.

More models showing up to sign, coming to the event so more fans come to see us, not smearing them on twitter and calling them garbage like some models and producers have, etc...u get the picture.

They know it will take time and a lot of the TS porn community will want to wait and see what they actually do before people get all excited about them.

Well....I'd feel pretty fucking fortunate to be sitting across the table from you 3...regardless of the context. I hope your efforts result in the change you're demanding.

Ha probably.

I'd assume they want more advertising dollar. Which is crap. Their are plenty of companies like Evil Angel, Third World, Gammae etc. which advertise in AVN, I'd assume Devil's does also. We used to advertise there a lot, especially in their AVN Online magazine. So I hope there wasn't any "we'd do more TS promotion if there were more TS companies spending money with us" ? When Tim Connelly was editor, we used to get a lot more tgirl articles and presence in the magazine. I'd have to see the potential for a much great ROI before I could take advertising or shows with them again.

I think it's great Brittany has been able to get this through. I particularly liked the "long-time TS rights activist" ... just think what she might be able to change in months or years and not weeks, :-) Unlike others, I'm going to be less generous and state that this was all on Brittany - everyone else, myself include just got on for the ride by re-mailing/blogging/etc. her post to others and engaging people on it. So well done to her.

As an obviously biased observer of this, I think the fact that Brittany St. Jordan got the AVN folks to meet with her and Amy and Wendy is going to be a positive thing moving forward. It may not amount to much in the way of money on either side, but at least AVN is not taking TS for granted any longer. Respect goes a long way in business.:geek:

Kudos to Brittany, Amy, and Wendy for working on this.:Bowdown::Bowdown:

As soon as Brittany posted her initial letter, I joined the many who raised voice in support, including my blog (www.ladyboyweb.com (http://www.ladyboyweb.com)), forum posts, and emailing Mark at AVN. While I was only one voice amongst a great many in the chorus, I was pleased when Mark emailed me about the meeting with Brittany, Amy and Wendy and the press release, which I posted on my blog with a link back to AVN.

As Seanchai says, Brittany was the one who got the ball rolling, the single most significant contribution I think to TS recognition by the AVN Awards since Joanna Jet got the category recognized in the first place. Brittany, my hat's off to you. Now let's all work together to keep moving forward, not only in the adult industry but in society at large.
