TV has become a wasteland. The only recent shows that are any good are animated shows. I love Futurama, The Simpsons, and I can't get enough of Family Guy. (Giggity Giggity). Oh and I never miss Conan on TBS.

I have Deadwood, the West Wing and Monarch of the Glen on dvd. I go through them all about once a year. All in the Family - I don't have the dvds yet, but I've been catching them on rerun recently and my love for this old classic has been renewed. Top Gear on BBC America.

So many great movies, but anytime I stumble across On the Waterfront, A Face in the Crowd, Inherit the Wind, any of John Ford's Fort Apache trilogy, the original Jaws, all the Marx Brothers films or the Hunchback of Notre Dame with Charles Laughton, I'll watch them right through, despite having the dvds.

I like Guillermo del Toro. The Orphanage(he was executive producer) was a great film. Horror is my thing and I find something good in just about anything. Have many "so bad they're good" in my DVD collection.

Over the last two days I have watched the whole of the first series of Homeland, one of the better tv dramas to come out of the US since The Wire. There are not many compelling characters with depth, and the story line is not that realistic but it does tackle some interesting issues in a meaningful way and the possibility of there being a mole in the CIA has exercised minds. It is odd to see two English actors with American accents playing roles Americans could have played, and while Claire Danes has marked her card with Carrie in a way she hasn't with other films, I find the bi-polar disorder a needless distraction, just as the breakdown of Saul's marriage was uninteresting. There have been some flaws, if Brody was really close to Abu Nazi he would address him by his Christian name not his surname, and Abu Nazir was seen wearing a dishdash that was too long, and I think the episode in which Brody teaches Abu Nazir's son Issa English began with the marker 'Northeastern Iraq' which is Kurdish territory and an unlikely location for either Abu Nazir or the drone strike that kills the boy, and mostly Issa is pronounced 'Issa (as in 'it') not 'eyessa'. I don't suppose it was ever going to be 100% fact checked, but it is a good drama nevertheless, but Brody's wife is not an interesting character and I am sure in real life the CIA makes many more mistakes than they do in this show.

HBO's Boxing After Dark, HBO's Championship Boxing, any boxing on Showtime, Boardwalk Empire, (watched in the past the whole of Six Feet Under, and In Treatment), and especially, any good historical documentary or in human sciences in general (and many of scientific vulgarization). I also watch many good or classic movies on TCM and Silver Screen or other specialized channels.

Seems like I'm constantly in front of the tube, but it's not the case. I tape a lot of shows to watch them later, and I usually don't have the time to watch it all. So I just let it go quite often...
