I was actually raised strong conservative and religious household and I do question some of the things my father has said. Despite him never met a muslim in his entire life they are evil and untrust worthy people. Though my mother interacting with a few and had always said that they were nice to her. But I think alot of it has to do with religion more so than anything else. And some of these people don't even live by what Jesus said is disturbing. But I can't wait to see what kind of opinions will be posted on here.

Something we have known for a long time is that an IQ test measures the ability of a person to take the test. I once asked a loudmouth who was boasting about his IQ score to explain why there had been more military coups in Pakistan than in India, and he fell silent, incapable of an intelligent response.

There are plenty of examples in history of brilliant minds going awol when it comes to Politics. The German philosopher Martin Heidegger, a man with an intellectual lineage reaching back in history through Hegel and Kant to Plato and Aristotle, offered a nauseating defence of National Socialism, for which he never once apologised. But as the article points out:

Hodson was quick to note that the despite the link found between low intelligence and social conservatism (http://www.livescience.com/16746-conservatives-disgust-political-views.html), the researchers aren't implying that all liberals are brilliant and all conservatives stupid. The research is a study of averages over large groups, he said.

Typical cop out: on average, everything is true. Averages show most people are not violent, drunks, drug addicts, racists, Muslims, atheists, or supporters of Liverpool Football Club or the Bengals. People are attracted to political ideas for a variety of reasons, IQ is not one of them.

Averages also show most drunks are people, most drug addicts have taken drugs and most racists are stupid conservatives.

Not to sound like Newt here, but, frankly, this is a radical position to take. Significant average differences don't matter? So since cigarettes only cause cancer on average we should smoke away? Or since lack of exercise and a high fat diet is only associated with heart-disease on average, no worries? Significant differences in averages are a legitimate way to make a case for a real relationship. Obviously causation can never be proven without a doubt, hence why we rely on probabilities and markers of significance. Calling basic statistical theory a cop out is, frankly, puzzling coming from someone as informed as you.

You are not the first person to discover I am useless at stats, it goes back a long way to a particularly negative experience in school, and the fact that I had a disrupted education anyway as we moved to another country where the teaching of maths was completely different and beyond me. If I see a test with figures or those circles and boxes where you are asked to spot the difference, or complete the puzzle my mind goes blank; I failed my 11-plus exam because I couldn't understand the point of questions with those circles and boxes Its a hole in the road I keep having to jump over.

The American linguist George Lakoff explains conservatism and liberalism/progressivism....

The Left, the Right, and the Family View of Government - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RytyWu3zUq8)

And, too, the left are concerned with empathy. Less so with the right. Conservatism comes out of the Edmund Burke school of thought. Ya know, we need a tiny elite to run things. Giving the broad populace power, well, that'll screw things up. Because people are irrational. So, you need a tiny elite of rational and responsible "men" to run society. I mean, an actual democratic system would collapse. Because the general population are too irrational to govern their own affairs. That's the Burkean school of thought....
There it is in a nutshell. Conservatives favor less democracy. Whereas liberals and so-called progressives favor more. Hence the reason conservatives like, say, corporations. Because corporations are deeply conservative institutions.
