this attention on TS is totally about them as objects.

Ummm...so?? You act like its a bad thing...would you rather TS's not get any spotlight at all?? I think its great that Tyra is promoting transsexuals.

Just how many TS's do you think are nuclear scientists anyway? My IQ is is mid 140's; my brothers is even higher and he HAS his physics degree...and he isnt a nuclear physicist either...

I really think its just you hon:).....

I'm never sure what to think of this sort of thing. Very conflicted when I think about this. Yes, it seems sensationalized and perhaps futhers a stereotype that TS only care about thier image and nothing else. Regarding "would you rather TS's not get any spotlight at all??", I think it would be positve if there was more of a recognition of those with other great achivements in the community, in their careers, or whatever. But then again, those whose jobs don't revolve around being seen by the public as TS often choose for others to not know (have no evidence to support this, just my belief from my own experiences). What business is it of theirs? Then again, there is a certain empowerment in being able to stand up for yourself and state proudly who you are.

Hope this made sense. Whatever I type isn't concrete and I'm still forming my own thoughts on these things. Ultimatly, I don't think it matters that much (Tyra can have a show spotlighting TS) as long as the people involved are having fun with what they do. Just wish there was more of a balance of what I talked about above.

Help me think about this more.

The media, especially in the good ol' US 0f A, is always going to play to the lowest common denomenator and stuff like beauty-queens-who-used-to-be-boys is a big draw for Joe-and-Jane-trailer-trash. In the end, it's all about selling patata chips and hairspray.

"Look, Maw! That one with the big tits used to be captain of the football squad at my schoo-wel!"

There is a website (Which naturally escapes my addled brain at the mo') that features successful TS's (Who are not beauty queens, escorts, porn stars, or 'media whores' - Don't slap me for that, as it's not directed at any one-or-more in particular), so there are places of recognition out there, but only those of us who have mastered Google seem to be interested in finding them.

I have a bit (However small) of a sense of it from being interviewed as the 'freak du jour' from everything from comic book fandom to stamp collecting, so I know first-hand how the media (In its feeble attempt to represent the supposed interests of the world-at-large) looks at niche cultures/races/sexuality.

In the end, it boils down to one thing: People are stoopid. Try not to trip over them on your way to a happy life.

Even if this isn't the link he was refering to it is important to know that all TS are not pieces of meat same as all GG are not !!!!

I just saw it and was not impressed at all. The 2 drag judges thought the show was their's and Tyra has never acted grander. These girls were used so Tyra and her Club Drag friends could get a good laugh. Some of the girls were hot but next time she needs to learn what is a drag and what is a TS. Even 2 girls say they are just drags

I saw this also, and I am not sure if roy and I saw the same show. The judges and Tyra seemed respectful. They modeled the show after Tyra's top model show. Now that show from I've seen is a different story. But today they gave the contestants fair criticisms and pointers as they cut them one by one, nothing insulting that I noticed. I did miss a small part at the beginning though. After Tyra revealed they were all born men there were groans and shocked audience members. There was a woman the camera zoomed in on, and she looked like someone just rubbed shit on her nose. But other than that the audience seemed into it and were rooting and cheering for the girls.

Claudia and Yasmine Lee looked great, and the others were ok. I didn't recognize any of the others, maybe they were never in the adult industry or are fairly new part-timers. Yasmine was a natural on skates, and Claudia in her white bikini was just beautiful. The win brought Claudia to tears while, Yasmine got a weird look when she found out she came in second. Almost like she was thinking. "Damn, I gotta go back to fucking Tom Moore's pale ass".

I was thinking the same thing. Just look at the expression on her face.

Ummm ... GG nuclear scientist... I don't think they're hot either! This one time I think that the objectification is there... its just that its of the female form (whether or not that form was born female)

Allenina looks good but it sounds like it wasn't a postive experience for her based on what I read in her blog.

On second thought I do recognize Allenina. Why did she have an unpleasant experience? Because they told her that she had short legs for her body? Lol. I watched this show with so much excitement, I was so happy to see these girls getting some kind of attention, my biggest criticism was that you didnt get to see their personalities enough, their intelligence and character, and I am sure people would enjoy and be surprised by that, and I imagine some of those girls are very intelligent and impressive people away from their looks...
