id say the hyena...
saw a video of a hyena rip the face off a baby zebra, then eat it alive. if they kill, theyll usually eat them alive (not go for the neck kill like the cat family does)
think theres reasons why theyre meant to be scavengers...

Germs,, like the flu. They kill more people and make more people suffer than any other species I know of. But the Platypus comes a close second in my opinion.

If you really meant viscous I will agree with the guy that said some sort of snail. If you meant vicious then I have to agree with Yvonne. It is either some sort of germ or bacteria or a type of insect like the Mosquito.

I'm with Yvonne on this one, I'm going with the Ebola virus...in it's gooey viscous form.

I have to disagree with Trish and Yvonne. Viciousness is a quality that comes with consciousness surely. And with self awareness. Thus I don't believe there is any species quite as vicious as mankind - for e are the nly species that is probably self conscious. And certainly not a life form as low down the evolutionary chain as germs or viruses. Cruelty is the close cousin of viciousness and I think cats are probably as cruel as they come after us. You've only to watch how they can play with their prey for hours before finally killing it.

But who but humans causes pain simply for the pleasure it gives them.

Ebola for all that is is a vile life form is concerned solely with ensuring its own survival. It's got selfish genes - like all of us.

Lions are vicious (disposed to violent and destructive food gathering behaviors), but not necessarily intentionally cruel. Ripping the flesh off a living Zebra and eating it before its very eyes is simply sitting down to diner. Still, the lion has intent. It intends to run down, capture and eat its prey. I don't doubt that lions are determined. I do doubt, however, that lions intend to be vicious. Viciousness and cruelty are in the minds of the beholder (and maybe the victim who also beholds). Ebola viruses are pernicious little buggers whose sole desire (in the mind of the beholder) is to divert another organism's cellular machinery toward the reproduction of more Ebola viruses and melt the victim's flesh down into a bloody puddle of meaty goo. That's vicious. And it's also viscous.

Viruses can not be assigned emotions. They are the supreme example of evolutionary perfection - survival of the genotype. The Ebola virus is not the most effective in this - there are others.

Certainly ends up viscous. But it's intent (if an organism with no consciusness or central nervous system can have intent) is simply, as you say, to reproduce.

a salt water Croc is vicious ,it eats its own kind it attacks it's own kind and any thing else around.when it attacks it goes into a death roll which tries to break the victims back and then it deposits the prey in an under ground burrow either alive or dead to eat later

I think the question was "species" .....when referring to viruses, don't we refer to them as "strains" and not species, but I may be splitting hairs. If we're talking species, it's unquestionably the weasel ( not the HA species of weasel) A weasel will kill for the fun of it, unlike most other species who kill to sustain.

The International Committee on the Taxonomy of Viruses does divide viruses into orders, families, genera and species....just to answer a technical question. "Strain" is often used to refer to isolate, or lab grown population.

im no expert on biology but i remember reading somewhere that that is less a result of being vicious as it is a result of being young and retarded
its in the best interest of a virus bacterium or parasite to not kill its host and most viri that have been with humans for eternities and thus have had ample time to adapt to them like the common cold or herpes are little more than an annoyance (in 99% of the cases) to the host and infinitely more successfull than ebola in infecting the masses

Like in so many families, being stupid goes hand in hand with being vicious while being smart goes hand in hand with being annoying.
