Okay, so this is what happens in the cities when there is a limited amount of a sneaker....imagine if it was food or water! If you live in the city and there is a disaster, hurricane, earthquake, or manmade disaster such as banking system collapse etc, dont think, just get in the car and drive as far as you can.

I did see that. Shame on Michael Jordon allowing his name on a product make in some shit hole in Sri Lanka or China for a few bucks, and peddling them here to people who can ill afford them for 200 bucks. And fuck Phil Knight too. Buy New Balance....at least they're still partially made by US workers.

The topic came up at dinner last night with some friends from Zurich and Vienna. They found the behavior disturbing...hard to argue with that.

It is what it is. I'm moving as soon as my lease is up. I've lived in some good sized metros, but things arent getting any better. If people are trampled and kids abandoned over shoes, I can only imagine what happens for food and water.

Ha. Food and water will be the last to go. Just stay out away from the electronics and shoe departments.

I feel perfectly safe in Los Angeles. This is my home and I was born here.

I was thinking about this when Japan was hit by the tsunami and nuclear plant meltdown earlier this year.

The Japanese confronted with a catastrophic disaster and limited resources still behaved in a civilized manner and worked cooperatively with one another. No riots, no violence against one another.

That would NEVER happen in the uSA and if the National guard wasn't deployed to major population centers nationwide, the not-so-United States of America would devolve into 'Mad Max' Real World.

But at least we'd get some cool cars out of it!!

Japan survives and thrives because the people are Japanese. The homogenous society works for them. That country has faced tragedy after tragedy but has pulled together as one people and one country. I admire them greatly even if many see me as a lowlife round-eye.

So pathetic, they're shoes people, just shoes. And I had a pair when I was a kid and they were nowhere near $180! There's a sucker born every minute, apparently they all show up to buy sneakers.

I've gotta agree with the OP. If people go this nuts over shoes, what would they do if food was in short supply?

Given the excitement of this past summer in London and Manchester, are you sure about that?

Man, so disturbing. so where in the USA can we still find work and a good and sane place to live. My suburb is cool. My best friend lives in the inner city and his place was broken into on Christmas Day, took his computers, clothes, shoes and hats. Making me consider the carriers permit application I have been procrastinating all year!

Fairly well behaved people shopping in Century City, The Grove, Westwood Village, and Beverly Hills all week. I was in every place and saw nothing to be concerned about.

Upper Midwest, the Dakotas, Nebraska, etc these incidentally also happen to be some of the states with the lowest unemployment figures.
I work in the bad area of a southern city. They had to have dozens of police called to the malls over the Nike thing. When, not if, things go bad, this city is not going to be a fun place to be.
