Is facebook getting filled with people abusing the use of applications, comments, notes and wall? People that you dont even know trying to add you as a friend just because they want to have hundreds of friends just like in previous myspace? I was going to open an account and as soon I hit "enter" a bunch of options came out of people that I might knew, all of them transgender girls for some reason. How the fuck they know I know some of those girls if I didnt filled out my info. Mainly all girls were from the US and 95% were TS porn stars? It makes me wonder why? :yayo:
So as soon as I opened I close it. No Facebook for me.:hide-1:

It's troubling that they seem to know a lot about me, particularly my online habits and what sites I visit. I think Zuckerberg is way too smart to let it go the way of myspace but I respect people who say they simply don't want to be bothered having a fb page

Not going anywhere but no longer a sensation. The social media "revolution" is over.

Facebook caused a stir while it was novel but now it's nothing but a way for Zuckerberg to collect data to sell.

I have a facebook page and I keep getting ads on the side about bed wetting. How did they know that?

The "people I might know" suggestions that they give me are people that look like mobsters, with names that end with a vowel.

Furthermore, I don't think facebook is going anywhere anytime soon..but like anything it will probably die eventually, supposedly google + is pretty good, but I haven't tried it out...but it is way more intrusive than facebook so probalby not for you.

The question, though, is: what do they need the money for?

I guess the cost of shipping all that produce in Farmville is high, what with energy costs being what they are. More police are needed due to all the MafiaWars, I guess. And it costs a lot of money to build a nation- those folks in Frontierville aren't just playing around.

Seriously- what, other than to get wealthier,, are the owners hoping to accomplish with an IPO?

EDIT: I know the games are from Zynga- separate IPO- but the point is the same.

facebook is so sneaky, they use parts of your hard drive to run processes, and they have access to everything you have ever browsed...which is probably why they could find your friends if it wasnt due to your email, natasha...

How the fuck they know I know some of those girls if I didnt filled out my info... It makes me wonder why?

There are recent claims that Facebook compiles "shadow profiles of non-users". That is: When anyone else mentions your name in a post, after a party, regarding a picture, Facebook collects all that and has an idea of who you're connected to before you ever login. Facebook denies these claims, but there are investigations in the EU:

I'll thank Facebook for prompting me to browse with "no cookies", so tracking cookies are always deleted once I close the browser. So Facebook can't track me on other sites -- I have to log back in ever time I visit anywhere, but it's a very small price to pay (saving forms helps).

Smart. Cookies are the basis of the internet economy and most all companies use them to collect and sell data.

Consumers should demand that cookies be limited to those necessary for a log in. But then, less stuff would be "free".

Ive used FB for a few years now. Ive reconnected with old friends and made new ones, but I don't use it for any other purposes. Take it as a fun way to keep in contact with people and you'll be just fine.

Facebook is dead to me. I was using the iPhone Facebook app and without any prompt that I am aware of, the app sucked out a copy of all of my phone contacts without my permission. The bastards. I thought I deleted my account with them but they keep sending me emails telling me I haven't logged on in a long time. wtf?

It is a fact that Facebook is getting filled with people who don't really kno how to use social networks, but, in my opinion, it is nto going to die, at least not in 3 years. Unlike MySpace, it is easy to use, doesn't consumes that many resources and its uses are diverse: from sharing pictures to even organize a revolution (see Egypt case). Alongside Twitter and YouTube, they're VERY useful tools for communication and marketing.

And that's why I use it: All my friends and family are on Facebook, so if I wanna stay in touch in a different way with them, I can use it. What I'm noticing, though, is that a lot of people is replacing in-person social interaction with social network sites, instead of using them as complements (which is what they were meant for).

still not sure, many of the profiles of the people were of people that I dont talk to them and have not search for. I just know them because I know who they are.

I have no use for Facebook. People that say it's good for networking in business are using that as an excuse to give reason to waste time on it. Six hundred million people! If each uses it for an hour each day (and that's a safe average considering many use it for countless hours), that's six hundred million hours of unproductivity in the world. If you wanna know where MOST of the losers are in the world, just go here.

You could say the same for watching T.V. MANY more hours are spent doing that with many more people than your FB hypothesis. At least with social networking there is a modest proportion of people who are actually exchanging ideas and sharing information. It's not an entirely passive activity to those who use it to their advantage. Same can't be said with so many of the other things people choose to fill their day with. Between the calculated use of social networking, Google and boards like these I haven't had to hold down a day job in over 6 years... something to think about there, Tex.

It all depends on you and how you communicate with other people.

I dont have a Fb account but the people I know who have one do not make it available for viewing by people they don't know, and they use it for closer friends and associates.

I am not into any up to date technology but I heard on the radio that at the moment, Twitter is the instant communications portal of the day, that people are now using a smart phone for more and more comms and also purchases, everything from groceries to bills to train tickets. At the moment there seems to be so much innovation in comms, all of it concerned with speed and simplifying what once were complex tasks, there will be new processors and processes, new types of phone; it means that what is trendy and desirable in 2011 will be out of date in 2012 or 2013.

The software that reads your email if you have a Gmail account is designed to recognise keywords and then link them to ads, as the aim is to get you to spend. Spending is the lubricant in all this, separating you from your money.

it is already possible to have a microchip inserted into the human body which contains personal information about you that can be read like a barcode if you swipe a reader across it. Some people whose relatives have alzheimers have done it; maybe in the future, people will all be -almost literally- wired up to the inter-world communications network...run and controlled by....scary thought.

An old friend wrote a letter to me recently, it was a strange experience, to hold a piece of paper with handwriting on it. When he dies (he is late seventies) I doubt I will get another; but then there won't be a post office to go to, or a postal delivery man to bring it to me.

Ah, no chance to follow the wondrous Natasha Lover on FB? The problem with FB is that I stay on as a way to keep in touch with a select few ppl I am not in close proximity to but most of them rarely use it.
