All due respect I disagree

Dolph Lundgren (born Hans Lundgren; 3 November 1957) is a Swedish actor, director, and martial artist. He belongs to a generation of film actors who epitomise the movie action hero stereotype including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
A graduate in chemical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and the University of Sydney in Sydney, Australia in 1982, Lundgren holds a rank of 3rd dan black belt in Kyokushin Karate and was European champion in 1980 and 1981. While in Sydney, he became a bodyguard for Grace Jones and began a relationship with her. They moved together to New York City, where after a short stint as a model and bouncer at the Manhattan nightclub 'The Limelight', he got a small debut role in the James Bond film A View to a Kill as a KGB henchman.

He's not even from Spain. Here's Jonathan Goldsmith. We've been tricked again.

Jonathan Goldsmith -- the dude from the Dos Equis commercials -- surfaced in Los Angeles this weekend, where the most interesting thing we learned about him ... is that he really likes Cream of Mushroom soup. -TMZ

Two Reed stories -- he was stabbed in the neck during a fight scene during The Three Musketeers (they used real swords in those movies), but wouldn't allow production to be slowed.

During the shooting of Tommy, Reed and Keith Moon became party buds. One day Moon hires a helicopter and has himself taken over to Oliver Reed's estate. Reed greets him carrying two swords and chsllenged Moon to a duel. Moon wound up stabbing Reed in the ass.

The thread is about Reed as 'the most interesting man', presumably man and actor; but most of his films are third-rate howlers; and as a man, Reed was a loud, foul-mouthed drunk who had his name, Oliver, tattooed on his cock; at least Michael Caine has made films throughout his career that were worth watching, even today The Iprcress File retains its appeal as one of the few realy good spy films. Reed was not interesting in any way, he was just a problem. Having just read an article on Anjelica Huston which as usual refers to her 'hell-raising' daddy John, I wonder, what is the appeal of such people?

Ever see The Brood? Cronenberg at his finest. Reed was like a head doctor/cult leader. Very natural and believable performance.

Revolver is a great Poliziotteschi Film. Sollima said he had to shoot Reed's scenes before 2PM while he was still sober enough. Turned out a great film regardless.

Yep we DID like him a lot - until the booze toppled him into a ludicrous parody of the fine actor he once was. Those who admire drunken sots being offensive and acting like assholes might find the latter days of Reed appealing, but the films you've mentioned (like The Devils) and others such as Women In Love were made during the days when he had the rabble rousing under control. A sad man.

Hi brother Simon is a sports presenter on british TV.

A guilty pleasure of mine is to search "Oliver Reed Drunk (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Oliver+Reed+Drunk&oq=Oliver+Reed+Drunk&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&gs_sm=s&gs_upl=2951l2951l0l4977l1l1l0l0l0l0l190l190l0.1l1l 0)" on YouTube and watch his many appearances in interviews.

Yeah - he was entertaining in that respect. one of the best (or worst) was a sho called After Dark which Channel Four used to show. It was a discussion shoe which was open ended (in the days before 24/7 broadcasting) It would only end when producers felt the panel had run out of things to talk about.
Reed appeared on one show about - as I recall - feminism. The producers called a a halt to the show when he attempted to grope a very famous radical American feminist.

Reed was an idiot who squandered his great talent.

Agreed.

If anyone wants to read a killer book try "Hellraisers: The Life and Inebriated Times of Burton, Harris, O'Toole and Reed". It's a great book but whereas the other three managed their great talents within their addictions, Reed had other issues and just came across as an overall twat.

Right up until his death, he was being an idiot. There was a story of during the filming of Gladiator he was in Gibraltar and a father with a small son went up to ask for his autograph - he punched (or butted) the guy. A real class act.

George Smith Patton, Jr. (November 11, 1885 – December 21, 1945) was a United States Army officer best known for his leadership while commanding corps and armies as a general during World War II. He was also well known for his eccentricity and controversial outspokenness.
Patton was commissioned in the U.S. Army after his graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1909. In 1916–17, he participated in the unsuccessful Pancho Villa Expedition, a U.S. operation that attempted to capture the Mexican revolutionary. In World War I, he was the first officer assigned to the new United States Tank Corps and saw action in France.[1][2] In World War II, he commanded corps and armies in North Africa, Sicily, and the European Theater of Operations. In 1944, Patton assumed command of the U.S. Third Army, which under his leadership advanced farther, captured more enemy prisoners, and liberated more territory in less time than any other army in military history.

I guess I'm a fan of Oliver Reed for the same reason I like Klaus Kinski. Their off the screen antics are as entertaining as the ones on screen.

Watch this film.

Chaney Jr wrecked himself with booze. He always lived in the old man's shadow and probably thought he would live as long. Chaney Sr was originally supposed to play Dracula until he got sick. Such a loss that he died at 47.
