I'll start with Carroll O'Connor. No matter what he did afterward I always saw him as Archie Bunker.

The Candy Man, Tony Todd.

Guys like Tony Todd and Robert Englund have actually gotten more work from type-casting. They were both in Hatchet along with Kane Hodder.

No way! Jay from Modern Family is nothing like Al Bundy. Katy Sagal is much more Leela to me than Peg now, and Christina Applegate's been in a ton of stuff that's expanded her range, including her new show Up All Night with Will Arnett (a really cute show by the way if you've ever had a baby).

The only one that I think has been typecast is David Faustino, and he did it to himself in Starving.

Katy Sagal totally sheds Peg Bundy in Sons Of Anarchy. Never knew she had it in her.

They might be good in those roles, but all I ever will see them as is Al,Peg,Bud,And Kelly. Lets not forget Married w/ Children ended in 1997. It took over 10 years for they to get cast in other notable stuff. Except for Katey Segal who is in futurama, but we never see her face and she looks totally different now. Even Futurama had a scene where she played Peg.

She is amazing. Not sure if she's been nominated for an Emmy but she should be. Powerful role. One season she was gang raped. I wasn't so worried for her but I was for the people who did it to her. She's one bad-ass biker momma with some tough friends.

How about every actor who's ever played a gangster and/or a cop? :geek:

I love the irony of watching guys like Robert DeNiro flip-flop between mafia boss and police sergeant. Joe Pesci, despite My Cousin Vinny, will always be Tommy, and Ray Liotta will always be Henry Hill.

Guess what my favorite mob movie is.

I was totally going to say Jackie Chan. You know that punk refuses to play a "bad guy?" What a tool....

And to concur with Bella, that Applegate sitcom, Up All Night, is quite good. Probably the best new series out there. All the other shit sucks, imo

How about Arnold Schwarzenegger? I think he picks up a car, or something super heavy, in every movie

His new movie, Cry Macho, is actually in production, or in post, right now.

I don't think he'll be able to pick up cars anymore....

I was thinking of saying Will Smith. Not that I consider him a great actor, but Will Smith did some different stuff. That 6 Degrees of Separation movie was good.
I never saw that depressing movie he did, Seven Pounds. I never saw Ali, either, but I think I can imagine it, lol!!!

Jason Statham is the thinking man's Danny Dyer. You might need to be a Brit to get that one. There was a Guardian interview with the Stath a few weeks back in which he cheerfully admitted he played the same role in every film (a) because they are popular and (b) because it keeps him wealthy.

And while Will Smith in a comedy is just, well, Will Smith, he was great in both Ali and the underrated thriller Enemy of the State, where he stood up well alongside both Jon Voight and the blessed Gene Hackman.

At least he's honest, but I can't think of another way to answer that question, either

Yes, I do recommend Ali. It's flawed, but it's worth watching. And Smith is excellent.

Enemy of the State is about the technology that was current when it was made. Minority Report is different altogether, definitely sci-fi.

Mel Gibson -seems to play an idiot in every film, regardless of the character, possibly because he is an idiot.

Sylvester Stallone -the only man to climb thousands of feet up a mountain in a vest and not die of hypothermia -because he is Sylvester Stallone...not sure if its the same vest he seems to wear in every film and in all climates.

Agree on Gibson. His last good performance was in Gallipolli 30 years ago.

As for Stallone, he shares that vest with Bruce Willis when he in turn is making another Die Hard....

Actually probably the opposite

Ed does Modern Family now and the character definitly isn't Al
Katey does Sons of Anarchy as a Bikie wife and Leela on Futurama
Christina does a new sitcom as a young new mom.

David ... well David was one of those kids cast because he was short for his age which doesn't help as an adult in getting work.

I call BS on Gibson - the guy is a tool but if you look at his body of work it's hard to say he's typecast, dramas, action, even comedies and many of them good.

Stallone pisses me off because if you look at Rocky or Copland he can actually act but mostly he just phones it n and goes for the cheap dollar with endless sequels.

Stavros
10-31-2011, 07:26 PM
I don't know what it is, but its Gibson's voice that annoys me so much I can't watch his films, its too light, and it seems to have got stuck somewhere between Florida and New South Wales, but I am deeply prejudiced against him. The English actor Kenneth Branagh also has a repulsive voice, again too high, it gets in the way of the acting.

There are those American actors who always plays Presidents, Generals, Judges and Corporate Bosses, but I can never remember their names. They are usually good at it, which is why they do it. I think Rin-tin-tin and Lassie were both typecast too...

Jennifer Aniston will always be Rachel no matter the role and Ben Stiller type-casted himself as an idiot and he plays the same role every movie. You can group Adam Sandler into that category as well.

Wow, way to hijack a thread Debra. Whoever the oily beast is in those pics, it's not a typecast actor.

How about changing this up a bit? Actors that have a really wide range. I pick Edward Norton and Brad Pitt.
