Thought it would be fun to find out from the girls and guys here who they'd nominate as the best (and perhaps worst) of their home state.

For example

best movie star
best musician/singer
best t girl
best film set in
best writer
best politician (or worst)
best city

You get the idea

So f'instance if it were new jersey would it be Patti Smith (born in Chicago but raised in NJ) or bruce Springsteen? Would best t girl be Nicole Dupre?

In New York state would it be the obvious? or might it be White Plains?

For Minnesota would best (or worst) politician be Michelle bachmann? Would best msician be Bob Dylan?

Nice to give a reason why for your choice.

best movie star: Clint Eastwood
best musician/singer: Patrice Rushen, Teena Marie
best t girl: Um...don't know who was actually born in California
best film set in: Chinatown, LA Confidential
best writer:??
best politician (or worst): No comment
best city: LOS ANGELES, BABY!!

Willie, Robert Frost doesn't do much for me but is considered by many to be one of America's finest poets of the 20th century; John Steinbeck, author of The Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men was born in Salinas; Brett Easton Ellis is from Ca if you like that kind of book.

I used to think Dustin Hoffmann was a New Yorker but he was born in LA; Tom Waits was born in Pomona but seems to be an acquired taste (I have no idea who Rushen and Marie are).

I never enjoyed either Chinatown or LA Confidential, and anyway as a lover of San Francisco, I would nominate films like Bullitt, Dirty Harry, 48 Hours....have any great films been made in San Diego?

I have a couple of cities because New England is so small, so mine encompasses the entire area...

1. Adam Sandler (Manchester, NH)
2. Steven Tyler/Aerosmith (Boston, MA)
3. Tara Emory (W. MA)
4. The Departed (Boston, MA)
5. Tie: Henry David Thoreau (Concord, MA)/Steven King (Bangor, ME)
6. John F. Kennedy (Boston, MA)
7. Boston, MA (Gee, wonder if I'm biased?!)

Sounds great. I would like to publicly blame NYCe for banning me (before I probably get banned again) and throw some shit at Nicole, who got me banned by helping her out awhile ago.

I have now vented my anger and am once again at peace. ;P

The stupid drama here could be resolved with a single pm or email, but then there would be no stupid drama, I suppose, which seems to fuel this machine. . .

Best musician -- John Fogerty. Berkeley born artist that fused Jazz, Blues, Country and Rock back in 1968

Classic, Jericho!

So far from this thread I have learned that Frank Zappa was born in Baltimore which I didn't know before; that Ronald Reagan is an 'honorary' Californian; and that someone rates Tom Hanks as an actor, which seems in most contexts simply impossible, but I guess someone must rate him.

I dont think the UK should figure in this thread so I am not nominating anyone.

I seriously would get off work on Friday and go fishing off a pier with my boys for fun.

One time we were sitting in a gas station parking lot drinking beer (true story) and my buddy called up his bosses wife (we all worked for the same company) and we ran a train on her.

I got hooked on a really bad and expensive habit there too. I still suck at golf.

The highlight of my stay there was spotting Sinbad out at the one nightclub.

The hookers off New Bern avenue were so bad TJinLA would not even fuck with them.

I would rather be homeless on the lakefront in Chicago than to be a senator in NC.

Seriously, I would not want to be John Edwards right now.

Connecticut...

Movie Star: Katharine Hepburn, Paul Giamatti, Natalie Portman, Seth MacFarlane (OK, not really a movie star, but Family Guy is fucking funny!)

Musician/Singer: Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, Mark Mulcahy, Gene Pitney, my favorite local band The Reducers. I'll add John Mayer as worst.

TGirl: The only CT girl I am aware of is Tess, but she's awesome!

Films set in CT: Beetlejuice, The Ice Storm, The Ref. I'll add Mystic Pizza as the worst.

Writer: Mark Twain. 'Nuff said.

Politician: Roger Sherman, the only man to sign the Continental Association, Articles of Confederation, Declaration of Independence, and Constitution. It was Sherman who put forth the "Connecticut Compromise," which provided for two houses of Congress, one with representatives allotted based on state population, and one with an equal number from each state. This helped clear an enormous hurdle in the drafting of the Constitution, and gives CT it's nickname of "The Constitution State." Ella Grasso, first woman elected governor without being a wife or widow of a former one, in 1974. I'll add George H. W. Bush as worst.

City: New Haven. Home to Yale University. Birthplace of the hamburger, at Louis Lunch--still in operation. No ketchup allowed. New Haven has the best pizza anywhere in the country (yes, better than New York).

Famous Criminal: Richard Crafts--killed his wife, then disposed of her body by putting her through a woodchipper. Inspiration for the scene in Fargo.

A question for Willie: Who is that hottie in your avatar? She looks awesome. You've had a couple different pics of her lately, no?

good one.

Florida

Best movie star? Hmmm. Can't really say. I'll get back on that one.Wssley Snipes? Really I have to get back on that one.

best musician- Hmmm- Betty Wright. Tom Petty. Jim Morrison. Bands Lynard Skynard. Marilyn Manson

Best T-girl. Ha I'm not walking into that one.

Best Film set in. Scarface. Just because it became such an iconic movie.

Best writer? I'm personally a fan of Tim Dorsey. He writes crime novels with all types of history of Florida and his main Character is a mentally unstable guy name Serge Storms. If you read his stuff I promise you won't be disappointed.

Best/worst politician. Worst Jeb Bush.

Best city. Miami. Just because it's got the most to offer as far as things to do. Beach, clubs, everglades (not in miami but close) Honeslty I'd have to include Ft. Lauderdale and the keys. Hell just all of south florida...

Well at least one good film was, sort of set in kansas - "The Wizard Of Oz"

and a great song by Lieber and Stoller: "Kansas City"

The Beatles - "Kansas City Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey" - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQiGv3G6wow)

There is Joe Walsh, gene Clark and Melissa Etheridge - all from kansas.
And the band called Kansas

And did you know that Amelia Earhart and Damon Runyon were both born in kansas?

Am also the greatest jazz star of be bop - Charlie parker was lso born in Kansas - and Colenan Hawkins was brought up there.

Charlie Parker and Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, et al 1950) - 1 of 2 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ5eGEest0g&feature=related)

And lots of famous actors - Ed Asner, Annette bening, Fatty Arbuckle, Dennis Hopper, louise brooks, Kirstie Alley and Buster Keaton

Alo Truman Capte's book "In Cold Blood" was about a faous series of kansas murders n the movie "Paper moon" with Ryan O'Neal and his daughter tatud were lso set in Kansas.

So lots of things to be proud off about kansas.

Anubis, Benicio del Toro was born in Puerto Rico.

I wonder if some of these people have lived in the state which is why people get confused?

Is Geno's the best place to go for a cheese steak?

I see that now, he was born there and moved to PA when he was 12. I thought it was kind of odd.

I just used wikipedia for all the people I listed.

Geno's!!!!
