Fidel Castro is apparently 85 today....
I'm not a supporter of Castro. But I certainly support people running their own country, their own affairs and determining their own fate. Meaning democratic control right through society. (We also have to differentiate between elections and democracy -- or meaningful substantive democracy.) Meaning: the workplace, school, communities. Whereby we all participate in a meaningful democratic fashion. (Just reading about democratic socialism... not socialism perse, as we wrongly understand it... but meaningful democratic socialism.)
Sadly, that doesn't happen in Cuba. It doesn't happen anywhere. Probably, um, the most meaningful democratic state in the whirling world is Bolivia. But who the fuck wants to live there -- ha ha ha! :)
