Too bad. I was one of the White Conan fans who gave George a look. I ended up liking it. Even though it was a little ethnic it was still an LA show so it was still more accessible to me than Seinfeld.

Lopez brought some decent young talent and had a different way of handling the guests and was always friendly. It's a shame when a guy with talent gets shown the door when no talent reality stars are everywhere. I do realize the Lopez decision was a business decision as his ratings were dreadful.

I'm sure it didnt help that Conan got his earlier time slot either. That said, I never really enjoyed his show anyway, while I do enjoy Conan.

I ended up not changing the channel after Conan ended. Lopez would hook me with something he said in his monologue and I'd stay tuned, sometimes for the whole hour. Lopez is still one of the better professional comics out there.

I wonder if he could re-invent himself going back to radio becoming a Hispanic English-speaking talk show host with very little music. Just talk with guests, callers, and reporting stories with a humor bend.

Yeah I heard the news on Conan too. I always liked George. I used to enjoy his old ABC sitcom. I thought it had a great cast and good comedy.

When I heard he got his late night show, I watched it but was not that impressed at first. But george kinda grows on you. Once you come to understand his brand of humor, he becomes more and more enjoyable.

I watch Conan every night. Big fan. Actually I DVR both Conan and George so I can watch later and zip through the dull parts. But George always had a good monologue and comedy bits. I am going to miss Lopez Tonight. Now I wonder if TBS is going to replace him with another talk/variety show, or just leave late night to Conan.

Good luck George.

Conan's ratings aren't worth bragging about either. Maybe TBS should get back into Rasslin', Braves games, Bass Fishing, and more Andy Griffith re-runs. This Taylor Perry character isn't going to carry The Superstation forever.

Must be a WC thing Dino....unless the Lopez show was on at 2am EST competing against those ever popular prision shows and Seinfeld re-runs, in which case I would have never seen it, but appearently neither did anyone else ! lol

You're an East Coast guy, right? Lopez had kind of an LA neighborhood style and his material reflected that so it was accessible to me. Seinfeld was too New Yorky and Jewish for me to get many of the jokes. I went to Catholic School so I understand Mexicans more. More of a demographic than racist observation.

Understood, and well put. Lopez never really caught on here, but Sienfeld was huge. What...there's no Jews out there in LA? ...Surely you have some diamond merchants ? lol

There are plenty. We are neighbors here but we don't really talk to each other. It's an LA thing, possibly more Westside. The Persian girl who lives next door has been real sweet to me twice though. I helped them get a Christmas Tree inside their house once.

:iagree: TBS hit the shitter as soon as Ted Turner left.

Actually Ted Turner is still in charge at CNN, TBS, TNT, and TCM. Turner sold his "Turner Broadcasting System" stock to Warner Bros for over $10 billion. WB made Turner the number 2 man at WB, and gave him total control of his old networks. Turner talked to and personally hired Conan, and he was the decision maker in the firing of Lopez.

Lopez had fair ratings in his first year on TBS, but they slowly started to slip. George Lopez presented the idea to Ted Turner of bringing in Conan to TBS. They hoped Conan would be a good lead-in for Lopez to boost his ratings a little. But it didn't work out that way. We have Lopez to thank for Conan being on TBS. Without Lopez, who knows where Conan would be now?

George Lopez didn't have the greatest talk show, but it had some real funny moments. I will still miss seeing him after Conan. Now I just wonder what TBS is going to put in the old Lopez time slot.

It was weird how merging the 2 shows backfired so bad. Seemed like a good idea. It got me watching Lopez.

I'm not sure what TBS expects to do with those time slots. Conan will be gone eventually too whether by his decision or theirs.

That was the reason for George bringing Conan to TBS. He wanted a good strong lead-in to his show to boost ratings. And it worked for many of us. The problem is, Conan has a young audience, and Lopez attracts a slightly older group. So the majority of Conan fans didn't stay for George. If Lopez Tonight had been more geared to younger people, the merger might have worked.

I think Conan will be on TBS for a long time, or at least until Conan gets tired of doing it. But his ratings are plenty high enough for basic cable standards. Conan is not on TBS to compete with the major network late-night shows like Leno or Letterman. But he beats out the competition on the other basic cable channels, so he is secure in his job.

If TBS fills Georges time slot, you can bet that the replacement will be younger, and ethnic. Or they could just show 2 more reruns of "Married...with children", or "My Name Is Earl". LOL.

Lopez's target demo was older? Still looked like a fairly young and hip product. I thought the younger White and Hispanic demo would've ended up watching and enjoying both. Certainly get strong numbers in LA if they were to make it happen.

I know Conan isn't expected to compete with Leno/Letterman. They are paying him fairly well and I don't know what they expect as far as revenue from the show in addition to ratings.

Yup. If you watch Lopez Tonight, you will see a mix of ages in his audience. I noticed lots of families, mother and daughters, aunts and uncles, and kids too. Lopez tried to attract the younger people with some punk and garage bands, but most of the musical guests were also for the 25 to 40 crowd, and even older...ie...REO Speedwagon, Prince, even country stars.

But watch Conan's audience, and they are mostly 18 to 25 year old demo's, and the bands are always punk, alternative, metal, and off the wall groups nobody ever heard of. Every night, Conan does a joke about something in the news or politics, and his audience acts like they have no clue what he is talking about, and Conan has to explain it to them. That's because the younger crowds are not reading the news or care about politics. George never had to explain his jokes before he finished them. His audience got it. I am over 50 and enjoy Conan, so I was happy to stick around for George too.

:iagree: That's the best part about having a DVR. There were a few points where you got a quick shot of her ass near the end of the show. Without a DVR to pause and rewind, you would miss the shots.

Yeah Eva looked pretty hot, no doubt. I hope my boy Lopez got some of that. LOL.
