View Full Version : Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Sucks!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is total crap compared to the original. First of all, I really hate CGI, it just never looks real to me. I'd rather see actors in ape outfits any day. Second, these just look like real monkeys, not upright walking creatures in groovy outfits. Weak. Third, I won't spoil the ending, but I will say that it is pretty simplistic and non-sensical. Anyway, go rent the original, it's a classic. This one is a steaming pile of monkey crap.

Saw the Original with Heston again recently and enjoyed it. I also liked some of the early sequels too.

Yeah, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is really good too. The ending is crazy.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes isn't bad either. Escape From the Planet of the Apes is kind of boring and Battle For the Planet of the Apes is really low budget. The Tim Burton remake is OK, but a little pretentious, and the Abe Lincoln as an ape ending is pretty ridiculous.

I recommended and took about 8 co-workers to see it back in the theater. Boy, were they ever pissed at me 119 minutes later.

NO ALTERING THE SCRIPT THOUGH!

I agree 100% with you on the CGI, it should be used as a special effects prop only, say to assist in some stunt ect. But not to build a fucking movie around entire characters are made from CGI and it sucks. Thanks for the heads up on the shitty flick. The orginal is classic and I can watch it over and over Tim Burtons remake was shit just like every Tim Burton does!

I saw it and was pleasantly surprised. Much better than I thought. As for your question, I had the same doubt before watching the movie as well. The end of the movie answers that question and sets itself up for at least one good sequel. HINT (without giving it away): have you seen 12 Monkeys???

I agree with theone. I found the first six hours extremely boring. The last 15 minutes was ok.

My favorite apes movie was the remake- man, what I would do to Helena Bonham Carter's hairy ads!

I liked the movie...
the casting wouldn't work in a serious film: James Franco is just way too "stoner dude" to seem believable enough as the scientist and John Lithgow as the father deep in the throes of Alzheimer Disease?!...c'mon, you know he's gonna ham it up to the nth degree.
...but it was entertaining...(also doesn't hurt that Freida Pinto's in it...she's so goddam pretty).

Most movies coming out of hollywood are shite these days.In is particularly annoying when they decide to remake or copy an earlier film that was excellent in it's original form. I haven't seen rise of the planet of the apes, but I have just seen the new conan the barbarian and it was utter rubbish, the original with arnold had it's faults but was memorable. Apparently Iam not alone it has flopped world wide.

Or maybe...that...new members are not allowed to search the forums.

Why post a comment in a 4 year old thread and not even comment on the discussion?

...first of all, I fail to understand why so many seem to have a problem w/ cgi...if it's done well (which these are) it doesn't upset me in the least. But more to the point...

Why do people who "hate cgi" go see a movie that is full of cgi then complain about it?
....that's the fundamental question, isn't it. The original was quite popular when it came out and novel for it's day (until they beat it to death w/ all the sequels) , but I'm sorry, the apes looked like actors w/ half a grapefruit shell stuck on the front of their faces. In the Tim Burton version, at least the apes looked like apes and had great performances from Paul Giamatti, MC Duncan and Tim Roth...and, altho I seem to be the only one in the world who thought it was OK, it somehow managed to gross $362 Mill. Also, I don't seem to have the problem w/ Lithgow and Franco that others do....I enjoyed Rise , esp Andy Serkis as Caesar....outstanding. Dawn is next up in my Netflix que....looking forward to it

Rise and Dawn were awesome conceptual movies, but the originals gave me nightmares as a kid watching them on late night TV. Scary eyes.

Pirate site?
Pffft! No idea.

I type into google what i want to watch and the site was in the search results.
I clicked on the "WATCH" button (not the download link) and the movie starts playing. I heard a virus warning, (as i've already said) from my resident virus scanner and it blocked the virus and i watched the movie.
Is that against the law?
I thought owning a pirate movie site was, or downloading movies to sell, was.
I am just watching it.

If it's a pirate site whoever 's in charge can delete the post if they want.
I don't care. I didn't say to DOWNLOAD the movie.

Hi ElectricWoody,

I know, eh.
When i watched Spiderman with CGI, i REALLY didn't like watching a "cartoon" as a stunt-man could have done the stunts.
You know?...it's HOLLYWOOD! That's what they do!

But for the Rise of the Planet of the Apes, it was acceptable as they can't get primates to do stuff.
I would much prefer watching the CGI like in this movie than to have actual animals used, and the ape costumes i can do without in 2015.
The costumes were great back in the day but those days have long passed, in my opinion.

Yall are being stubborn oldheads.

If any franchise reboot was totally made for CGI, it's Planets of the Apes.

The script for Rise of the Planet of the Apes is equal to the original Planet of the Apes, and the imagery of the reboots totally outclass the hokey makeup used for the original sequels.

Film director to animal handler: Can you make the chimp scream the word, "Noooooooo!!?"

Animal handler: "Uh, no. Chimps can't speak, sir."

Film director to animal handler: "Hmm, alright. Then, can you ask it to repeatedly fire two revolvers while riding a horse going top speed on cement."

Animal handler: "Uh, sorry sir, but all he does is eat bananas and pretty much walk around on his knuckles."

Film director to animal handler: "Oh yea, yea i forgot that. They look almost human, you know?...okay uh...the gorilla. We need it to pick up that manhole cover over there and toss it at the squad car's windshield."

Animal handler:" Sorry, sir but he won't do that as gorillas are non-violent by nature."

Film director to animal handler: "Oh, i see, i see. Yes, yes. Hmm. Okay, uh, i really need the gorilla to jump from the bridge and throw itself at the helicopter waving it's arms over his head as if to maintain his balance while in flight. And it has to look REALLY angry."

Animal handler: "Uh, with all due respect, sir, that's a 300 foot drop to the river. It would traumatize the gorilla."
