Chinese police say 598 websites shut in crackdown on online porn
BEIJING (AP) - Chinese police have closed 598 websites in a crackdown on pornography but online gambling and fraud are growing, news media said Friday.

The Chinese government encourages Internet use for education and business but has launched repeated campaigns to stamp out material deemed obscene or subversive.

The latest crackdown, launched in March, led to 25 arrests, the China Daily newspaper said, citing figures announced Thursday by the Ministry of Public Security. That figure was low compared with more than 500 people arrested in a national crackdown last year.

"Online obscene video chats, gambling and frauds have become serious crimes in recent years and are still rising," Xinhua News Agency cited Wu Heping, a ministry spokesman, saying.

One business targeted in the latest crackdown was "online X-rated chat-rooms that offer nude shows through Web-cams" for a fee, China Daily said.

The police ministry handled 14,000 cases of Internet-related crime over the last year, the newspaper said, citing Zhao Shiyuan, director of the ministry's Web security department.

Police received more than 12,000 tips from the public, Zhao said.

China has the world's second-largest population of Internet users after the United States, with more than 100 million people online.

In the heaviest reported sentence for online obscenity, a 20-year-old website operator in eastern China was jailed in 2004 for 15 years for selling downloads of sexually oriented movies.

I discussed this elsewhere with someone more familiar with this topic, let me quote him:

China regularly launches campaigns like this, and although the "saohuang" (clean up the porn) movement is effective in barring domestic porn sites, there is absolutely nothing China can do about the influx of porn from abroad, especially from Japan and the West.

Furthermore, China is becoming more and more lax about porn, which any visitor to the country will realize within a day or so. Only the hardliners are still fighting it, but they might as well start a program to eradicate all the flies in the world. It is all in vain.

Now, why is China fighting porn? Because it is an old taboo since the times after the Tang dynasty. Before, China was sexually liberal, and now the times are turning again. This has to do with the opening up to the outer world in general, and with Internet in particular.

You should also note that there is no law against downloading or consuming porn in China. It is legal, it is practiced, and it is virtually unfiltered on the net (bar a few percent of the sites). What is illegal is copying and distributing porn, especially for commercial purposes. Spreading less than 20 "huangdai" (yellow tapes, porn videos) is not punishable. 20--99 tapes (or images) is punishable, and above 500 tapes (or images) is considered severe, with a potential lifetime imprisonment. This also goes for digital content.

The effect is that China is consuming as much porn as the rest of the world, but they won't be able to cash in on it. This is bound to change in the future, if you ask me.

End Quote

thanks guys for the replies

If I was at risk for jailtime for distribution I'd just move to another country and set up on online website for chinese members to download from and enjoy the profit

to be honest I cant remember the last time I stepped in a porn shop in Manhattan, everything I want to see is download only these days (bangbus, assparade, cameltoe, etc.)

Overall china is a safe country and i guess you could link up all that stuff to crime so eliminating that stuff prevents certain crimes from happening, china has a low crime rate so they probably know what they are doing.

legend, Social Science studies have never causally linked the availability of pornography to increased crime. The historically low crime rate in China was due to social economic and political differences from the West. As China has developed a more western economy, its crime rate has increased in recent years.

JWBL, Hentai is not Chinese..but Japanese.

Hentai (変態), a Japanese word meaning "perverted" is used in many western countries to refer to anime, manga, and computer games with explicit sexual or pornographic content (see Japanese pornography).

FBI and Pornography

Last Update: Saturday October 08, 2005

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is targeting pornography. It's not kiddie porn he's targeting...it's pornographic material featuring consenting adults.

Beginning last July, Supervisors for the FBI were gathered together in Miami (that center for terrorism, drugs, etc.) and informed of this fact. In August the FBI began recruiting agents to surf the web to locate what they defined as porn. The Porn Squad (constisting of 10 agents) became a funded group as of the fiscal year that began October 1, 2005.

It appears the Porn Squad has been told that the best possibility of prosecution includes golden showers, scat, beatiality, and bdsm along with other fringe fetishes.

Xbiz announced this week (the first week of October) that the Red Rose Stories site was closed down (see links below) by the FBI and computers were seized. From what I have been able to find out, the site contained the written word about the "best possible prosecution" items.

We were all aware of the push to get kiddie porn off the web. And I don't think any one of us will disagree that this is a legitimate goal. And some of us may agree that the Red Rose Stories site did contain some things we might object to.

But this is a 1st Amendment question.

However, the social conservatives have gained a strong foothold in Washington. Gonzales is supporting stamping out porn, a major concern for the Bush administration's powerful Christian conservative supporters. The Mississippi-based American Family Association and other Christian conservative groups have pressured the Justice Department to take action against pornography.

Please be aware of what is going on. Please understand that your government is not targeting kiddie porn only. Please be aware that any site that contains any of the targeted topics might find itself in the same condition as Red Rose Stories.

Of course, the Bushes are no Christians, not even in their own minds. Just like Bush, Jr. is no Texan, or even a Southerner, but is a Yankee born in New Haven, Connecticut. The Bushes simply run with this schtick because they know the rubes out in TV Land eat it up--that goes for their naïve oppenents on the "left," as well.

Concerning the hidden video caught of Bohemian Grove by Alex Jones, see:

http://www.infowars.com/bg1.html

Additionally, you can view a clip excerpt of Jon Ronson's "Secret Rulers of the World," which also documents Alex Jones' infiltration of Bohemian Grove, at the below link:

http://www.sacredcow.com/media/source/alex/alex_uktv1_bg.rm

See also the full video "Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove" by documentary film-maker Alex Jones.

Also interesting, on the Nixon tapes from May 13, 1971, Nixon says of Bohemian Grove:

""
"But it's not just the ratty part of town. The upper class in San Francisco is that way. The Bohemian Grove, which I attend from time to time--it is the most faggy goddamned thing you could ever imagine, with that San Francisco crowd. I can't shake hands with anybody from San Francisco."
""

(From "All The Philosopher King's Men--President Richard Nixon, John D. Ehrlichman, and H. R. Haldeman," James Warren, Harper's Magazine, February 2000 http://articles.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1111/is_1797_300/ai_59086093 .)

Yet the Bushes just can't get enough of Bohemian Grove.

Here's another an interesting article on Bohemian Grove:

"Gay Porn Star Serves Moguls," New York Post, July 22, 2004:

http://www.propagandamatrix.com/articles/july2004/220704gaypornstar.htm

Of course, in previous posts on this forum I've already documented Bush, Jr.'s sexual affinity for men, involving his long-time homesexual lover, and fellow member in the Brotherhood of Death (a.k.a. the Order of Skull & Bones), Victor "Victoria" Ashe, and his gay male escort Jeff Gannon (a.k.a. James Dale Guckert). Additionally I documented on this forum former President George Bush, Sr.'s sexual fondness for young boys. For that, see the below post by me:

Correct HTG, now your starting to sound like me lol. But the word "HenTai" is actually an example of a "borrowed" word from China (BianTai). The pronunciation is a bit off ( the character "Bian" is pronounced "hen" in Japan), but the meaning is the same in both cultures. Although for this special case "HenTai" is referring to something native to Japanese culture. The Japanese language has many Chinese borrowed words, some borrowed from Cantonese dialect, some from Mandarin depending on when and how many diff times a character gets introduced and re-introduced into Japanese culture throughout history, which explains why a Japanese Kanji can have up to 4-5 different pronunciations depending on the context the character is used.

LOL. Now youre twisting my head Hing. LOL. Yes, hence the "feud" between China and Japan ensues (Japan borrowing many things "Chinese"). LOL. Hentai means KINK in Japanese and BianTai means a FREAK and or Perverted in Chinese. Which is right and both similar in word definition. I am always facinated you all know these hing. Quite impressive indeed.

No matter how smart anyone is, you have to have data to prove a causal connection, and it just isn't there.

a Presidential Commission in 1970 determined no such relationship of pornography leading to rape or sexual assault could be demonstrated as applicable for adults or juveniles.

The Meese Commission, which was strictly political and not scientiific tried to find linkage. Its own minority report dissented saying the findings were not in keeping with the amassed social science data. Subsequent nation-wide studies in the United States also seemed to find no strong evidence to connect pornography and crime.

The British Committee on Obscenity and Film Censorship, in 1979 concluded "From everything we know of social attitudes, and have learnt in the course of our enquires, our belief can only be that the role of pornography in influencing the state of society is a minor one"

The Department of Justice of Canada study essentially says similarly: "There is no systematic research evidence available which suggests a causal relationship between pornography and the morality of Canadian society . . . [and none] which suggests that increases in specific forms of deviant behavior, reflected in crime trend statistics (e.g., rape) are causally related to pornography."

European/Scandinavian societies investigated for any relation between the availability of pornography and rape or sexual assault, again showed no such correlation. In Denmark, West Germany and Sweden, data showed that as the amount of pornography increasingly became available, the rate of rapes in these countries either decreased or remained relatively level.

Legend, just because people with a particular political agenda say there is a connection doesn't make it true.
