I am an avid gun owner and member of the N.R.A

I myself have been a gun owner for almost 20yrs and currently my Every Day Carry (EDC) is my Smith & Wesson 629 6 1/2 inch Magnaported 44Mag with 3 speed loaders with 320Grain Double Tap Ammo.

Sure, big, bulky weapons like a 6" Smith or a single action 45 like a 1911 variant are going to be of any use in a close in situation, not to mention they weigh a ton and escalate it. No matter how right you are, a sex worker or anyone marginalized by police is always going to be wrong using lethal force. Non-lethal weapons such as high potency gasses or electrical weapons might be a much better choice where the both of you can part without having to get the law involved.

I have been to American Shooters in Vegas and many other firing ranges accross the world and have been through the full menu with this hardware & loads more. Its unbelieviable to us in the UK the amount of hardware available to you guys in the states.

My two cents about this is that unless you've had combat training with firearms, carrying a gun is very risky, because there is a good possibility that your attacker can get it away from you and use it to harm you. Your best choice for self defense is exactly what Tempest said at the beginning of her post. Next best is to carry some kind of noise making device that will attract other people and hopefully any law enforcement in the area. If you must carry some sort of weapon, look into non-lethal types such as a personal Taser, stun gun or chemical spray. If you do carry a weapon make sure you learn how to use it from an expert.

Using a firearm for self-defense opens you up to all sorts of liabilities, both criminal and civil. For every case you hear about where the person defending themselves with a weapon didn't receive some sort of legal or civil punishment, there is another where the victim ended up going to jail or losing everything they owned in a lawsuit. Also, since most people are humans with all the emotions that go with that, there is a big risk of psychological problems for the shooter associated with taking a life or causing some sort of permanent injury to an attacker, to say nothing of what happens if you miss your target and hit an innocent. :geek:

I agree; the majority of transexuals do not look like porn stars or beauty queens; and many have transition issues in addition to the range of problems most of us have in our daily lives. We all of us have to find constructive ways to deal with issues; throwing mud, ridicule, 'outing', makes the situation worse. Sometimes it is better to let things pass rather than create a dynamic that can take on a life of its own.
