View Full Version : Benevolent Sexism

Ok guys new word and concept you need to learn in today's world. If you hold a door open for a lady, open her car door, let her in first before you, attempt to pay the bill, or anything chivalrous, the Feminists now call that Benevolent Sexism. According to them and the women they had keeping a diary of these little, innocuous things that men do constantly remind them of their subservience even though men think it's a proper thing to do. Worse yet, the men will insist on doing things such as shielding women from harms way or something unpleasant such as changing a tire or for g-d's sake even insisting on driving on long trips. They find that demeaning even though you consider it the proper and gentlemanly thing to do. Women are now to correct you when you try to be nice and open the door for themselves by curtly telling you they can do it themselves. Oh yes, when you're expected to set up their computer on their desk, they feel demeaned for that and resent it as well. Apparently men setting up and attempting to help fix or resolve a computer problem appears to be an issue with a lot of women.

This new Feminist study and recommendations should work very well at the check out when they're expected to produce their own credit card or remove the spider from the bathtub.

A true feminist does not count the chivalrous actions of a man. They are still women and like being treated like a lady. Being a true feminist is serving a cause of equality for women in society...ie...equal pay for equal work,..... women's rights in general.

Opening a car door, or offering to pay for dinner does not directly represent a demeaning action to a lady. It is simply what a gentleman does out of consideration and respect for the woman because he wants to, not because he has to.

Those feminist who complain about men opening doors or treating them like women, are confused about their own gender, and just being a pain in the ass.

Yeah that does suck. A woman once had a go at me when I held a door open for her, so I shut it in her face and walked off.

I was only being polite - and she was obviously a bitch. Mostly tho women seem appreciative if I help them with a heavy bag down the tube, or take one end of a pram etc.

And then there are of course the cretins who seem to take pleasure in leaving women in a predicament to their own devices on the basis that if they're all feminists they can do it themselves. Like everything else, it's a two-sided coin.

It can of course also be overdone. Choosing for a woman in a restaurant is either cloying or sexist. Neither way is good.

I was brought up to follow the example of my father, who was a courteous gentleman and a real gentle man as well. I don't do it to impress, it's simply civilised behaviour.

Yeah, but this label didn't come from HA. It came from those psychotic femi-nazi's. I consider myself a feminist, but sometimes groups of GG's just take things too far. That's estrogen for you.

I will say this though: if a man is a 'benevolent sexist' after the first couple of days, there's a much higher chance that he has a malevolent 'control and protect' side that most women, me included, don't like.

And with the right girl i guess it will be very rewarding coz she will want to treat you right also...when a guy knows how to make a girl feel feminine and respected, she will respect his masculinity also...(but most guys here want us girls to appreciate their femininity, be honest guys, most of you dont like the traditional male role, not coz its old fashioned, but coz you dig tgirls for your own special preferences)

But you don't hold doors open for women just because they're pretty or you want to get into bed with them. It's for people who actually need the help - pregnant women, women with children, old women, old men for that matter. It's more than courtesy, it's practical help and it should be second nature. smh

Judging by some of the responses here we seem to be living in an entirely self-interested world.

It isn't about altruism, it's a fucking door. You aren't making the world a better place by holding the door open for someone. You aren't alleviating suffering by doing so. It takes close to zero effort to open it yourself, so why get annoyed when you have to do so.

If someone is walking behind me, and they are going in the same door as me, I will swing the door out so they can catch it themselves. But if they are walking so far behind me that I would have to stop walking and stand there holding the door, I'll just let it close and they can open it themselves - I'm not going to stop making forward progress.

Like I said, if their hands are full (or if they are old or crippled) I'll gladly get the door. But if not, why do it? I get annoyed when people stand there holding the door for me.

Ahhh but it DOES make the world a better place. It makes people feel good to be treated nicely, and they are more likely to spread it around. That's the differences with some guys and why they don't get respect from women. Like I said in my last post. We open a door because we want to, not because we have to. A nice guy will open the door, or hold one open out of sheer kindness and respect for the lady. It's just common courtesy. That's what decent people do.

If you only care about yourself and have no respect for a lady, how can you have any respect at all? Kindness and respect is earned. If you don't give it, you won't get it. I have always treated people the way they treat me, and I think people in general feel the same way. But if you start by treating a woman like an inanimate object, she will see you as the same or worse. And rightfully so. First impressions are not forgotten.
