Would it also be true to say that these days the "mainstream" is more open to accepting people who defy conventional gender labels?

The internet and the wide availability of porn have opened the doors, but the greater acceptance of gays within the general community suggest to me that similar acceptance of transgender people might not be too far away. In the media it's still at the novelty stage with the usual right-wing scare-stuff, but I sense that it goes a lot deeper on the street.

I'll say that the first TS that has a reality T.V. show, or is the focus of a scripted T.V. show or movie, will be a playmate. Yasmin was great in The Hangover 2, but I did not hear anything about her on mainstream entertainment shows, like E.T. or Access Hollywood, only on sites like HA. There is a difference between appearing in Playboy and being a Playmate. Playmates are the ones featured in the middle and includes the centerfold. As far as I know, Tula is the only one to appear in the U.S. edition, and she wasn't a Playmate, just a photo spread. Not sure about the other country editions as far as the centerfolds (Playmate of the month).

Since the three of them are all post-op it seems more than likely that the first transsexual "playmate" and centerfold in a Playboy issue will be post-operative. The post-op Roberta Close has appeared in the centerfold of Brazilian issues of Playboy, Bibi Anderson in several European men's magazines and even in Mexico there have been transsexual centerfolds in quite a few men's magazines although most of them were post-ops. Obviously the odds of a pre-op transsexual centerfold appearing in a Playboy-type men's publication anytime soon are slim and none. And truthfully I would prefer it remain that way.
