Can anyone enlighten me as to why there seems to be a craze in the last couple of weeks for disinterring threads that have been dormant, in some cases for several years?

It's not continuing a discussion so much as archaeology - hence the Indy reference - as you have to find the thread in the first place, then establish the context and finally find something new to say. It's going round here like a rash right now.

This isn't a criticism, I'm genuinely curious.

It's probably because the mods chime in anytime someone creates a new thread that is even remotely like an old thread, and tell them to refer to the old threads. Or maybe people just like doing the time warp again.:)

Often the "Similar Threads" down on the bottom can be pretty old. I'm guessing a lot of it is just people clicking on them and replying.

Or, in view of Indy's advancing years, Indiana Jones and the Bus Pass of Doom.

I saw a documentary about the guy that Indiana Jones is based on. Fairly interesting. But that I realize is neither here nor there.

Vic Armstrong, the British stuntman who stood in for Harrison Ford in all the Indy movies, has written his memoirs and it sounds like a hoot - he was interviewed on Radio 4 last night.

its because losers who have no life think a HIGH POST COUNT makes them cool. like a title on this forum means anything in the real world.
