How could you say a movie is oscar worthy and it hasn't even come out yet, i think they are really just using the whole gay thing to shock people taking away from the possible bad storyline.

I've seen it and nearly 4000 people on imdb.com have seen it also - giving it an average of 7.9/10 so I'd say it's doing pretty well.

7.9 what drags it down the story?

Plot Outline: Based on the Annie Proulx story about a forbidden and secretive relationship between two cowboys and their lives over the years.

IMO, it sounds like a snooze-fest. Anyone ever see "The Piano"? That's what I expect, only worse. For me, love stories are boring as hell anyway, but a gay love story strikes me as doubly boring. That said, I could be totally wrong, and I hope anyone who pays the money to see it enjoys it.

I actualy caught this film and thought the dialogue and plot was well done, as Ang Lee is really good at directing character driven movies.

Personally the movie that I hope gets oscar consideration is Lord Of War, as that had a solid and well done performance from Nicholas Cage, and didnt beat the ideology of the director into the audience head, rather just show the life of this man and what it eventually lead too

Histoy of Violence was another film that deserves to get oscar considerations, i know most people i tell this disagree with me, but I thought Chronenberg did an excellent job of bringin this anarchistic and violent notion into the main character that vigo mortinsen portrays in the movie, who lives in an ordinary quaint society, and shows the effects it has.

Narnia, did actually suck the big one, battle scenes were cool but not enough to save the film as en enjoyable watch.

Syrianna and So long and Good Luck, were filmed and directed quite well, and both had George Clooney, which surprised me since I never liked most of the films he had been in.

Capote is one of the films that i believe does deserve to be nominated for an academy award.

Sorry for the rant, but i cant stop when i talk about movies.

I didn't see where Ang Lee's character development with the Hulk really went... :?

Goodnight and Goodluck was one of the few excellent US movies, I've seen this year, last year was much stronger. On a bit of a Korean movie fix at the moment after the Hawaii Film Fesitival. Crying Fist was my favourite movie of the year, although Oldboy is a couple of years old I just got to see it this year, Brotherhood of War - met the director and what a great film and Blood Rain - a kind of Name of the Rose/Angel Heart movie - excellent.

As for the movie in question...haven't had the chance to check it out yet, but from what I've heard about the film, as well as the story... doesn't interest me much. I will check it out given the chance, though.

The only movie this year that I've actually seen and would love for it to receive some oscar buzz is Stay. Interesting premise complimented by equally interesting characters. Great cinematography...and moreover top notch performances by Ryan Gosling and Ewan McGregor with nice supporting work by Naomi Watts and Bob Hoskins. It's a shame that it's received little attention up to this point and I doubt it'll receive much recognition when ocsar time comes rolling around.

Just watched this film and as it is getting a big push towards it being the main contender at the Oscars i just wanted to pass judgement on it, i personally think i have good judgement where films are concerned but with this one i think it has definately over-hyped, the two leading performances are excellent but other than that the film just seems to be mediocre with no particulary great diaologue or memorable characters, the main problem with this flick for me is how the film is so fractured with barely five minutes going by without it jumping forward another year. Is it just me that thinks this film is so flat?

How could you say a movie is oscar worthy and it hasn't even come out yet,

Films are screened to the press weeks/months and sometimes (Rarely) a year or more before they hit the theatres so that the reviews can get timely posting around the date of release. The "Oscar worthy" bit is the reviewer's take on their particular screening. They may not even have seen the same version of the film that finally gets to theatres. Many times the pre-screening will feature alternate endings (The press in NY will see one version while the press in Chicago will see another and the studio will try to get a feel for which they should go with based on audience raction).

A friend of mine that went to a preview of the first Heavy Metal movie said that the sequences in the final film were in a different order, the soundtrack was switched about, and one sequence in the preview hadn't even been finished yet (The press version featuring the rough pencil animations).

So now you know how the critics see into the future. :)

A PS from another Brokeback thread: The Boondocks strip featuring granddad and his "Brokeback" man-bag made it to the front page of the Life section of USAToday last week. It headed a feature on the effects of the media on cultural slang.
