I just went to turn on the Family Guy, and what did I see? A fucking Presidential Address to the Nation about Iraq!! I already know everything I need to know about what's going on there, so spare me the waste of time. If you want to make an address, how about addressing this nation's yawning budget deficits and our crippling national debt, both of which are far more important than Iraq?

Family Guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I feel better. Anyone else want to rant? Go for it.

You mean this isn't a post from Kramer? Nevermind. My bad.

Now, now, Ari. Im not an angry white guy all the time. Only when people call me names unjustly. Or when my race comes under attack, which is quite normal. 8)

P.S.- now that avatar is a much nicer pic of yourself. :)

the budget deficit and national debt are about Iraq!!!

227 billion so far
http://nationalpriorities.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=182

nearly half the US budget is for military related spending
http://www.warresisters.org/piechart.htm

for some perspective:
the US budget for the National Endowment for the Arts is 121 million
PBS's budget was cut by 100 million to 300 million
Headstarts budget is 6 billion a year (we are blowing through 5 billion a month in Iraq)

The most recent budget cuts funding for student loans and health care to food stamps and foster care to try to save 8 billion over 5 years
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/25/AR2005102501485.html

not all the victims of the Iraq war are in Iraq

While I agree that spending for operations in Iraq certainly contributes nicely to the budget deficit and our national debt, this nation’s fiscal problems extend well beyond Iraq and the military. For example, if you check the following link, you will note that spending for Health and Human Services has grown faster than anything else:

http://www.federalbudget.com/

For decades now, starting with the Reagan Administration, spending has grown out of control requiring this nation to borrow ever-greater sums of money to meet its underfunded obligations. IMO, the policies of both parties have contributed to this problem (though, at present, the Neocons seem to be making an extra special contribution), and neither party seems to have anything approaching a workable solution.

 Yes, a syndicated sit-com is much, much more important than knowing what your opponents are thinking, esp. as your mind is already made up.
You don't need to know what their strategy is for holding on to the people your side wants to hop the fence...

I wondered why the American Left was taken by surprise in 2004 with all the hard-core support they have, I don't wonder anymore- they don't even try to figure out their opponent's strategy, they just rant on their assumptions instead of thinking.

Here's a small hint for the politically active out there: If you KNOW what they're saying, it's a LOT easier to refute it.
