on Mac no idea.
Do you just want to play the video file?
If so, try a diff. video player called VLC you might want to try.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
click below the big download button that reads "Other Systems and Versions" for
osX version.

Google search I came across this forum/thread about same topic.
A lot of diff. options to convert so I hope you have luck with their suggestions.

I use a program called Xilisoft Video Converter (Ultimate version) in OSX that can do that. It costs $60 (around £36). You need a Mac with an Intel Processor running 10.5 or 10.6.

There might be a cheaper (or free) solution but I couldn't find one...

I use a no longer supported FREE app called VisualHub (for Mac OS). It's been out of development for at least 4-5 years, but works fine on Snow Leopard. You might see if its still available at Sourceforge or some other open source site. Its easy to use. The last version was 1.34. There is a companion app for audio conversion called AudialHub as well.

Many thanks for the replies.

I actually have visual hub which I use for all my video conversions but I can't get it to work with FLV files. I'm on snow leopard too.

Mine is version 1.29. Perhaps its just out of date. I know they went bust ages ago!

Shame cus its a fab little programme

If you can't find the last version, let me know. I can try to find a way to get the .dmg to you.

Here's a suggestion:

Install Perian (http://perian.org/) (free) into Quicktime Player so it can play all codecs.

In Quicktime, convert the .flv to a self-contained .mov file.

Using VisualHub, convert the .mov to .avi. I believe that will work.

If the latest version of Quicktime does not work, version 7 is still available on the Apple site, I believe. Or do a search for it.

I don't see VisualHub on the list, but Quicktime 7 up to v.7.5.5 is there. I have version 7.6.6 that I got directly from Apple recently.

Thanks Seamonkey. Perian seems to work fine at playing FLV files. Not sure whether I can save the file in a different format yet tho. I will have a play around.

It seems that I can resave the files in a Quicktime format.

Many thanks Seamonkey! x
