Quite common during my HS head days along with nitrous. Both were a cheap and legal buzz back then. It was a street legal and less potent version of Amyl Nitrate which is almost the same thing chemically that old folks used to sniff in little glass and fabric ampules that they would crush for angina/chest pain b4 nitroglycerin tablets were common. This hardly qualifies as any sort of reality or mood altering substance. While it is a vasodialator and will momentarily drop the blood pressure, it's main benifit is to enhance an orgasm and relax muscle. No I don't really think so. I suppose a case can be made for the aromatics affecting synapses, but for the most part Isobutyl Nitrite isn't much different from Amyl Nitrite which is much more poweful. The vision correlation is also the same for the viriltiy enhancing drugs like viagra. For decades b4 angioplasty and time release nitrates such as Isosorbide Mononitrate became available, it wouldn't be unusual for a 50+ male to be using amyl nitrate ampules several times a day and even more during the cold winter days for decades until total stenosis finished the job without any normal deterioraton of mental capcity or vision. I'm only trying to dispell the notion that poppers are somehow dangerous or may be a contributing factor to HIV and Kaposi's Sarcoma. Keep in mind that the poppers contraversy that has overshadowed their use in today's culture was borne in the same 80's homophobic pseudoscience cesspool as "Gay Bowel Disease" and a correlation study between gay HIV patients w/ Kaposi's and popper use. A rise in the birth rate and stork populations doesn't necessarly prove that an increase in the birth rate is the result of more storks b/c of a casual correlation either. I personally enjoy topping on poppers... and I don't consider them a "drug" - yes they are an inhalant, and could be abused if becoming dependent on them was your only choice for whatever reason; but I think most people can easily take a hit or two while fucking - be "high" for a couple minutes maximum - and move on.
