I've lived in both: NY 1998 until 2004, LA since. I voted LA but I think it depends on what you want.

You want great food and easy public transportation, and a part all night every night in every club, New York wins hands down.

You want a life? Move to LA. Simply more "livable".

Doesn't hurt that Los Angeles has had nearly 100 years of gorgeous people moving in to make it in Hollywood and breeding gorgeous progeny in the process, of course!

I think its pointless comparing New York to another US city because of its historical breadth and cultural importance -New York is a world city like Paris, London, etc; it would make more sense to ask Los Angeles or San Francisco as both are in California, and San Francisco is like New York: a compact, European style city. The climate in San Francisco might be a bit weird, but the topography, the urban fabric and the ease with which you can get around makes it one of my top 10 places of livable cities, whereas I would happily never set foot in LA again. To many people it means Malibu, Rodeo Drive, Hollywood (west or otherwise) and so on; I got stuck in two of the eastern 'cities' and saw nothing much apart from a warehouse, a lot of electricity pylons, and Mexican-style cantinas. The taxi drive to West Hollywood on my weekend off took nearly an hour, and when I got there I discovered the ts night in Peanuts (as it then was) ended the night before. Cue Martha: 'What a Dump!'.

I've lived in both, and obviously both are very different but of course I'm a New Yorker, so I'm partial. It's correct that NYC is an international city in terms of finance, fashion, world affairs, politics, art, and theater....LA for entertainment, so in that regard there's no comparison. The climate thing is no contest unless you like autumn, then the 4 seasons might appeal to you. I found much to like in LA, but fuck the traffic and the freeways, and there's way too many pretentious a-holes there, ( not Wille, Dino, or Bella..LOL) but I'm sure it could be said that NYC is cold and unfriendly. But can any city match a world chamopinship team riding down the Canyon of Heros? Not likely.
Seattle is a great city as is Denver....but too may west coasters moving there !

Los Angeles has been been over populated even when I lived there last in 2004.
San Diego I feel to much of crime is going through there.
I almost relocated to New Orleans because I'm familiar with the city I have relatives that have lived there for decades I used to vacation there during the Spring and Summer during the 80's and they have a lot of strip clubs through out the French Quarter my area of expertise. However that plan took a turn of events when Hurricane Katrina hit also my mom is 75 years old and needs my assistance so for the time being I'm stuck here in Northern Virginia and I'd love it here if it were't for the harsh winters.

Yeah.....that's quite an impressive list....for LA, I suppose.

If you Google most big city's ..they have websites that will give you a decent list of museums and aquariums.

..the two cities are not really comparable...other than being big. For one...the weather is too different...the structures are different...the historical significance is different..so on. N.Y...is probably closer to Chicago than LA.

However, from what I understand...crime is much higher in LA.
