Because 'society' hasn't seen fit to allow them to function as a valid part of their exclusive club.

I may be wrong but I believe many of them do it because it helps them pay for surgeries to transition.

I think its just more that the only transgender women you are exposed to are involved in pornography.

shemale is a term exclusivley used in the sex industry.

but a lot of transexual women gravitate toward the porn industry because theres a big market for it, and its easier to become a porn star than a bank manager.

in the uk the figure is probably about 30% of TG that work in the sex industry .... with the rest just maintaining employment, self employment .. i remember reading this on some site sw something it was called that had all the statistics for 2009 ...

remember the ts you all see in porn/hooking only account for a minority overal ..

to give you an idea i contacted 7 ts women the last week from another site (not a dating site, not sex site) to ask if they would be interested in modelling.. all of them pointblank refused as they are all employed . their age bracket ranged from 22 to 37.

out of the 7 only 2 explained their reasons why.. which simply were the money wouldnt be enough to compensate for the damage to their careers and that the modelling has no real progression or advancement as its based soley on your looks ...

after chatting with them abit online i asked them what their current professions were ... 1 of them works for bskyb in graphic design the other is a recruitment manager ..

fairplay i say to them .

I've met quite a few transsexual or transgender women who had jobs outside of porn IRL.

Because 'society' hasn't seen fit to allow them to function as a valid part of their exclusive club.

I have to throw up the bullshit flag on this one. I know that some places on this earth make life hard as a transsexual but not everywhere. Our society has accepted me as a female, kept me employed since I came out, and treats me just like they treat every other woman. A little self worth and a dash of dignity will do wonders when it comes to acceptance amongst the greater majority of society.

Turn off the television and quit reading the "woe is me" headlines and actually go out and see how the vast majority of TS people really live. It is the 9-5 day job, raising a family, pets, going to church and all the things considered to be "normal" by most.

We are ultimately responsible for the choices that we make that put us in any of the scenarios that life throws at us. Blaming society and being full of self-pity does nothing to solve the issues at hand. It merely deflects the blame onto someone else in the hopes that everyone else will change their way of life to accommodate our problems. It is a very selfish way to want to affect change.

/End Rant

Why do we get into porn and escorting? For me it is because being an attractive woman with a cock is a prize commodity to some people and they will do anything to have a woman like me in their life. Either on the computer screen or in person and in either case they are willing to pay for it. Why spend eight hours a day at a desk when I can work two and triple my income? I guess it comes down to if someone wants the security of a 9-5 job or the freedom and income of the sex industry.

Thanks, Britt...I appreciate your position and am very happy you feel the acceptance you've described. I was speaking in 'general' terms, based on my observation. I too, know a couple ladies, outside the porn biz that do well in their respective lives.

That's cool...You have the right to do so. As much as I respect the transgender community, I am still an outsider. It would be great to gain more insight from ladies such as yourself.

yes but hes right especially in the United States, weve came along way but not nearly long enough.

There will always be bigotry and hatred from extremist of any fashion towards any number of groups of people. However, to think that we as TS Americans don't have a fair shake at things in our society seems a bit unrealistic. Ten years ago, maybe but things have changed and for the better. There is a much broader recognition of TS people than there was before and a vast majority of people really don't give a shit one way or the other.

In the rural hillbilly parts of PA where I grew up people didn't give a damn at all when I came out. Yes, there were a few people who poked fun and tried to insult me. But why let those few narrow-minded folks ruin the fact that everyone else accepts me for who I am? This is the same thing on the grander scale of things. Why let a small minority of assholes block out the fact that the majority of society already accepts us as TS with the laws and regulations already in effect?

I don't think we need new laws as much as we should have more self-assurance and stop dwelling on the few negative aspects instead of being thankful for the many positive parts of our lives.

I was hit by a car and my nurse was TS. TS women are everywhere with careers. Anyone will be respected by society and peers if they act dignified no matter what gender. It's always up to you.

Most of the working girls are far from dignified, unless you get to the upper echelon. No class is no class.

I think its great that there are from the looks of it quite a few women in mainstream life, granted this site is not devoted to that side of things, so as such we only see an incredibly small sample size, and to say all work in the porn/sex industry is a huge overstatement. Consider how few actually make it big time in that industry and then how they seem to dominate the threads and what not on this site. Although I still say more power to them as far as there choices in life are concerned its really none of my damn business.

u dont need an education to do porn..but pornstars have a shelf life of a couple years before they get old and boring so it's not something u can do for the rest of your life....the thing about porn is fresh faces keep it going.

a real independant pornstar has the capacity to span a career of at least a decade .. but this requires brains, marketing ability, fanbase , stella performances and genrally a good business knowledge in negotiating deals to cut out the middle men ...

most do porn to enhance their escorting desirability i would say ...

myself i am more into photography/video and only modelling for a few years to boost my credentials in producing ,, i am also going to be doing london film school to get eventually a BA in Film production/Directiing .... (my folks are very excited for me to do this)

At the moment my main focus is setting up my studio warehouse to rent out to companies in mainstream, adult etc... so its a real business that also grants me the ablity to shoot all my own stuff inhouse and change sets at well ....

My career will be behind the camera :) and i am doing well thus far in that i shoot for the biggest TS site, have shot for 2 other TS Sites and shoot some mainstream stuff etc ... though later on i would loive to take a stab at shooting some non porn stuff .. i have a great plan to get a short movie submitted for sundance in 2012 ...

err and thats me ... :)

Sounds to me like you have spent time figuring this out, that's a really good thing. I know numerous people who went to school for film industry and cant define what they want to do other than saying "i want to make movies". It's really frustrating:)

Transsexuals in the Philippines: MORE THAN ENTERTAINERS

We see them as entertainers, hairdressers, dancers and artists…

They are called bading, ladyboys, or baklas…

But what if we start looking at who they really are? What if, after looking at them, we start listening seriously to them?

We would then discover that transsexuals in the Philippines have become a strong and educated workforce: graduating from the best universities in the ountry and working for top corporations in executive positions. You can also find them running solid political platforms in Congress or make moving speeches at the ECOSOC Chamber of the United Nations in New York to fight needless discrimination against transsexuals.

Rica Paras, born Richard Paras, an international IT consultant for Hewlett-Packard Philippines, gets to travel around Europe and the United States for training and business missions. Equipped with cunning and sheer confidence, she was able to get into this multinational company and eventually climbed the corporate ladder.

Sass Rogando Sasot is a founding member of the Society of Transsexuals Women of the Philippines (STRAP), and is one of the Asian representatives for the International Gay and Transgender association (ILGA). Though brilliant and clever, she recounted how she was prevented from entering a catholic college because of her «deviant» sexual orientations.

Bemz Benedito graduated from Ateneo de Manila University and has pursued a career in politics. She is currently working for Senator Loren Legarda and was in fact the first transsexual nominee in the Philippines, to run for a Congress position under the partylist Ang Ladlad last May. Her platform was simple: to pass an antidiscrimination law.

Wow, you're perfect! Haha:) I'm not going to lie there aren't very many people in the engineering field these days, not to mention ones that are very attractive.

Its sad that our field gets a lot of bad rep, and the moment you say you're an engineer everybody thinks you're a nerd and somebody who is anti social:( not to mention an unattractive.

I wish you best of luck in obtaining a masters! tho i have been reading that a masters in our field is equal to 2-3 years of experience.

I read an interesting article today about unemployment in UK. it sounds that with the current trend more and more people will be turning to alternate income sources so that may change.
