Since you're not being a complete dick this time...
120-240-480 hz are your new options on buying tv's
120 is dim-240 is bright-480amazing lighting
Hz-hertz is Refresh rate.
1080 is only pixelization But go 1080p because alot of 720p have their pixels die hence worthless tv.
with LCD or LED is 480hz 1080p
I have a 47 inch LG LED 240hz I like it only costed 1,200 after tax.
Youtube how to tune your tv model and then it will be amazing.

Go to About.com Home Theater. There you can check specs and comparisons between the different options. I will tell you that anything with a plasma base has a shortened lifecycle (personal experience).

Is LED better for gaming?

All depends on what you want. I am told Vizio uses Sony components. Don't know if it is true. But my 2nd TV is a Vizio, and it works great. Little 22" 720p model for the bedroom. And it's hard to beat Vizio on price without going to some seriously no-name brands.

I haven't been keeping up with the latest & greatest, because I'm not currently in the market. But I watch a LOT of podcasts from CNET TV, and one thing I will suggest- skip 3D. The current 3D tech with glasses is going over like a turd in a punch bowl, and is likely to die a horrible death. IF 3D television ever catches on, it will end up being glasses-free. Or at the very least, it will use the simple, passive glasses like they use in the movie theatre, not the $150-a-pair type with batteries & all that jazz.

I'd do some research on cnet.com if I were in the market, and compare features & prices. When I buy something electronic without checking there... and it sucks... when I go there for answers, I see they already knew it sucked. So, yeah.

You can be certain that no matter which model you buy , the next improved one will come out within the week.

LED is state of the art. But see what your personal viewing requirements are. Some people like me only want a really good TV picture, I don't have to feel like I'm looking out my kitchen window picture or a magnifiying glass clarity.

it changes every 6 months...that said Plasma's are shit because they use so much fucking power...
forgot to add 120hz-$$$ saver 240hz-eats a little bit more then expected 480hz be prepared to pay a huge electric bill.

Before you buy anything make sure you have the right place to mount it. Decide whether you will leave it on the stand or wall mount it. If you go with the wall mount for gods sake position it correctly. I die a little bit every time I see a TV over a fireplace.
When seated you eyes should be at about mid screen height wise.
I have a wall mount but it's just above the media console. Makes extended viewing an enjoyable experience.

This is true! I went from a 42" Samsung plasma to a 42" LG 120 htz. LCD and noticed about a 30-40 dollar drop in the power bill right away. That, and I just like the picture quality on the LG, anyway. LG's a good "bang for your buck" TV, IMO.

The biggest quirk I noticed with mine is when your running something like digital or HD cable, you have to keep the energy saver mode off. The sensors for the energy saver can screw up the signal to your digital or HD cable box and really fuck up your picture. I did with mine, anyway, but since turning off the energy saver, I haven't had a problem!

I'm a big fan of Panasonic. I have never had a problem with them. I'm in video production and I have been using Panasonic decks and televisions for years. A lot of people say Panasonic is like Sony only a couple hundred bucks cheaper but I'll tell you, I think Panasonic is better in many respects. They never die. They make a line called Viera which are just as good if not better than Sony's rip off Bravias.
Samsung makes some good models too, but price per pound, I'd go Panasonic. Oh yeah, and stay away from plasma!
Hope that helps.

I only buy Sony. The latest TV I bought was a 32'' LED HDTV for the bedroom. Great set.

Sams Club and Visio led's. Great prices and I get compliments on my 42", 240 mhz (w/ Direct TV HD). Looks damn near 3d. I just saw a 47", 480 mhz, led Vizio there and it was awsome.
