Funny this should come up. My mom's first stint at working the ER back in the late 60's had an older guy in his 50's or early 60's show up with a badly lacerated member. Word on the floor was he stuck it in one of those old style cannisters where the motor blades were just past where the hose entered. Most all machines nowadays have the fan motor after the bag. Wasn't there some sort of flap around the late 90's or early 2000 about GG's injuring themselves using a hypodermic syringe with the needles side cut off and the plunger reversed.
