Best cities for gays
Minneapolis was named the gayest U.S. city, according to the second annual poll by The Advocate (http://www.bing.com/search?q=The+Advocate+gay+magazine&form=msnpop). San Francisco doesn’t even rank in the top 10, but rounding out the top five are Santa Fe, N.M.; (http://www.bing.com/search?q=Santa+Fe%2C+NM&go=&form=msnpop)Las Vegas (http://www.bing.com/search?q=Las+Vegas%2C+NV&go=&form=msnpop), Orlando, Fla. (http://www.bing.com/search?q=Orlando%2C+FL&go=&form=msnpop), and Pittsburgh (http://www.bing.com/search?q=Pittsburgh%2C+PA&go=&form=msnpop).

Minneapolis won praise for its "no-nonsense" people and practical approach (http://www.bing.com/search?q=minneapolis+gayest+city+don%27t+deal+well +with+hypocrites&form=msnpop), according to writer Mike Albo.

Miami Among the Gayest Cities in America

Few cities make gay look as good as Miami.
A recent poll ranked the Magic City as the No.15 "Gayest City in America," according to The Advocate, one of the leading gay and lesbian publications in the country.
And what makes Miami so gay, you might be asking yourself? Fashion and an abundance of half-naked, tanned men, of course.
"The Design District has given the city its own promenade of chic stores and restaurants, and style boutiques like the Webster and Alchemist have elevated fashion beyond the beach look," an analysis of Miami's queerness stated. "But coastal chic can’t be quashed here. Thankfully, there are still hordes of hot tanned and toned guys cruising South Beach."
Oh, it's still raining men on South Beach.
The rankings were based off of "completely unscientific" data like the number of entries in YellowPages.com with the word "gay" in the business name or description, the amount of gay bars, and the number of openly gay elected officials in the area.
Miami ranked No. 1 in the number of listed officiants for gay weddings within 50 miles and for hosting the most "Tegan and Sara" performances over the past five years.
The "queerest burg" on the annual" list is Minneapolis.

So a guy whose last name is Gay and has a business is inherently a gay-friendly or pro-gay business? Does the word "gay" include lesbians, bisexuals, transgender, pansexual, etc.?

Gay community

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation (http://www.hungangels.com/vboard/#mw-head), search (http://www.hungangels.com/vboard/#p-search)
The gay community, or LGBT (lesbian (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Lesbian), gay (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Gay), bisexual (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Bisexual), and transgender (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Transgender)) community, is a loosely defined grouping of LGBT (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/LGBT) and LGBT-supportive people, organizations and subcultures (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Subculture), united by a common culture (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/LGBT_culture) and civil rights movements (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/LGBT_social_movements). These communities generally celebrate pride (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Gay_pride), diversity (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Multiculturalism), individuality (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Individuality), and sexuality (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Human_sexuality). LGBT activists and sociologists see LGBT community-building as an antidote to heterosexism (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Heterosexism), homophobia (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Homophobia), biphobia (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Biphobia), transphobia (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Transphobia), sex-negativity (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Sex-negativity), and conformist (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Conformist) pressures thought to exist in the larger society. The term gay pride (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Gay_pride) is used to express the LGBT community's identity and collective strength. The LGBT community is diverse in political affiliation. Not all LGBT individuals consider themselves part of an LGBT community.
Groups that may be considered part of the LGBT community include gay villages (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Gay_villages), LGBT rights organizations (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/List_of_LGBT_rights_organizations), LGBT employee groups at companies, LGBT student groups in schools and universities (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Gay-straight_alliance), and LGBT-affirming religious groups (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/LGBT-affirming_religious_groups).
Within the LGBT community there exist identifiable sub-communities, such as the leather (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Leather_subculture) community, the bear (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Bear_(gay_culture)) community, the chubby (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Chub_(gay_slang)) community, the lesbian (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Lesbian) community, the bisexual community (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Bisexual_community), the transgender (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Transgender) community, the drag (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Drag_queen) community, and the rave (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Rave) community.

The contemporary lesbian and gay community has a growing and complex place in the American & Western European media. The community has been targeted by marketers who view LGBT people as an untapped source of discretionary income (http://www.hungangels.com/wiki/Disposable_income), as many couples have a dual income with no children. Despite this, lesbians and gay men are still often portrayed negatively in television, films, and other media.

I've met gays who disliked lesbians and/or bisexuals, and would completely disagree with you on that. I also think that the word community, if it has any meaning or value whatsoever, cannot be inherent to a label.

Minneapolis???? I don't know much about that city, don't hear much about it. Why is it so gay-friendly?

I would've thought Los Angeles or San Francisco would be number 1.

funny, I would think SF is the number one gay ank kinky city. Las Vegas should not even be consider a gay city as the community here sucks with only one lesbian event two times a month.

You have to look at the criteria used to make the assessments. The San Francisco Bay Area has been judged the most LGBT-friendly area in the past year by a different group. I lived in the SF Bay Area for 20 years, and have also visited Minneapolis many times. There's no comparison in my view, though Minneapolis is a fairly liberal city and has a lot going for it, it's also pretty typical of Midwestern places--kind of dull and boring.

Plus, Minnesotans, despite having a liberal reputation, continue to elect Republican governors. Michelle Bachmann represents a district in MN as well.

California is a very diverse state with both very liberal and very conservative areas, but it's also the largest state in the US, with a larger population than Canada. San Francisco hosts the largest gay pride parade in the world. And if you're into kink, attend the annual Folsom Street festival in September sometime!

I relocated to Colorado for a better employment environment (and family), but I miss SF a lot!
