I actually don't totally discard what you've said and I'll tell you why....I recall seeing a PBS special some years back with Harvard Professor Gates ( yes that Professor Gates or the Beer Sumit fame !!!!!! )

Gates did an ancestry and genealogy study on some famous African Americans including Oprah and himself. I think he was unnerved to find he had so many white ancestors so close in his family tree. It was the same with many of the participants in his study....lots of mixin' and matchin' goin' on ! I think the only one who could trace 100% black ancestors all the way back to the 1800's was Oprah. A fascinating study and lots of myths were shattered.
