I work with some ignorant fuckers.
They are very homophobic.
The first guy I work with is from South America and is the definition of a metrosexual.
He wears very form fitting clothes and always dresses up plus he puts stuff in his hair to make it stand up.
He is very foo foo to me.
Any ways he was always going on about "san francisco" and "all the gay people there".
I was like..."Just dont go if you dont like it".
This guy goes on and on about it.
So then he is telling me about a guy at his church(oh yeah he is a "christian")
who was coming on to him and being very inappropriate.
I told him what that dude did was wrong but maybe he sends out the wrong message by the way he dresses.
He was like no no no.
I told him...dude...you know what a metrosexual is?
Your one of them.
Your very well groomed and wear dress clothes EVERYDAY.
You wear tight clothes.
I tried to tell him in this country that is sending the wrong message.
Then he tells me guys hit on him to his face all the time.
Im like "WHAT?"

He said a guy called him sweety and was trying to hit on him.
I told him...look....I know Im good looking and that shit has never happened to me....you are doing something wrong.
Granted this guy is only 5'7 tall.
Then he tells me "See these jeans my wife bought them for me they cost $200 dollars"

Don't allow these folks to get you down or push you away from what you know is right. A week ago I was seriously contemplating dropping off this forum, but if I did that the ignorant bullies would win. This is one of the situations where the serenity prayer is helpful and I will paraphrase it for you:

And if a flamboyant person wouldn't fit in with what the manager wants then likely that person would feel constrained and unhappy working there anyway, and had a narrow escape.

I do agree the guy wouldn't have been a good fit for the position because he'd likely be treated differently and negatively by the managers and likely a few of my co-workers. That shouldn't be the case and the managers should have at least attempted to see past the guy's sexuality and realize it had absolutely nothing to do with his professionalism, work ethic, or dedication... but the world doesn't always play fair.

The word doesn't have a thing to do with being gay, which was the real reason why the guy wasn't considered. I just thought it was funny how she chose to save her own ass.

OK thanks. I hadn't realised from your original post that the guy was rejected because he was gay. In that case the manager's statement was entirely predictable, if hypocritical. She could hardly admit the real reason for discrimination, isn't that illegal in the US?

I think his point was that the line drawing should be done by individuals or if necessary by their elected representatives, based on what we perceive to be right. Religions don't meet those criteria.
