Most doctors offices can do STD Tests and provide result that you can bring to set. These guys made it easier with fast Test results via a database and emails that producers could check on for convenience. How could you say good!!?

Because someone, or preferably someone(s) new, can now step up and do the same thing. How could you say that's bad? More choice is always better for everyone. Trust me, AIM is easily replaced.

Oh, and while I frown upon mandatory condom use, I hardly think it's a bad idea for the porn industry to show more realistic sexual safety practices.

There already are other choices!!! Its called go to your local doctors office. My very first test was provided to me by Dr Horowitz in LA. It was cheaper and took a week to get back to me, but that is not acceptable for the adult industry needs. All AIM did was give people in the industry a reliable central location to go to and fast results. Its not like you are forced to go to aim. I've worked with several people who brought tests from another company.

And I know many who have been told their test needs to come from AIM because it's easier for the studio (i.e. last minute shoots), plus the fact that the only place you could get quick test results was AIM sort of proves my point. There always needs to be more options.

What is it with trans performers and their fear of change anyway? If something better came along, would you still be loyal to AIM?

There is Aim and Talent Testing that do identical testing. I personally liked AIM when I was in the business. They were used to dealing with performers, treated you with respect, were efficient, and most of all in my opinion CARE.

Anyhow I hope AIM gets back on their feet as its a HUGE asset to the Adult Industry! I also have used other forms and accepted Doctor forms besides AIM however the convience level and "understanding" at AIM is great for our Industry.

I don't know much about AIM, but it sounds like they were providing a decent service. To my knowledge, there isn't anyone else providing that service. So yeah, there's a void now, but there isn't competition. So a service is gone with no immediate replacement. How is that good?

The only reason the LA Health Department is so invested is the $$$ issue. Since 1998 AIM has provided Industry testing and not until 2010 has anyone showed any interest in providing other choices. It was until this year with the crossover male becoming infected that NOW after seeing all the records and how many visitors that AIM gets they are now seeing money signs.

I cant imagine how dealing with people at the health department who have no interest and or knowledge of the Adult Industry will go over. I am all for "choices" however at this point there are no choices but going to the health department who do NOT offer the same panel as we have at AIM, not to mention the monthly and sometimes bi weekly cost to have it done at a Dr.'s office, here in Kentucky the same panel is well over 500 bucks!

EXACTLY. It's a systemic issue. We should be pushing MORE doctors into being able to provide what AIM does, not celebrating AIM's monopoly over the market. Personally, I'm with Lisa, I'd rather go to my own doctor than AIM if she could provide the results in a more timely manner.

Lisa its not that issue, its that Doctors wont provide the information to producers, the cost is triple what we pay for this monthly test, and most serious talent who use AIM have to several times a month. Can you imagine going to a Dr. and spending 250-500 twice a month for a hardcore that only pays 800-1000? Also AIM provided a service specifically for the Adult INdustry so the staff is friendly and its just a great place to go with no judgement.

No, but I bet they could under release. You could also provide your results to whomever you choose directly.

I think a bunch studios should come together to build a database for performers that ANY doctor can sign up for and use. That would remove the monopoly and the conflict of interest.

Even still, nobody's ever even heard of them. They can't compete with AIM and so AIM holds all the cards. If you could go to your own personal doctor and get faster results and have them entered into a database for you, same as AIM, wouldn't you do it? The fact is that studios prefer AIM and that's all anybody needs to know to decide not to compete with them, let alone directly against them.

You can go to talent testing hon or call AIM and they have alternative advice for all the performers. Bella it would cost a fortune to go to your doctor two to three times in a month. I had a lot of the performers I performed with for my site tested the day before! Even if they had an active aim test result. For my safety. I don't agree with the 28 day policy, and I think they should do Viral Load Testing in my opinion.

... to the closure of your beloved AIM. The idea of an alternative has never even crossed into the minds of any of you. I find that just as creepy as any other group think you girls have been engaged in.

For the record, I'm glad AIM plans to re-open and I'm not bashing it. My problem is with its dominance. In case you haven't figured it out, I have a natural inclination towards opposing situations in which people have few, if any choices, and again, I think AIM's dominance makes it less likely that anyone will truly be able to compete to the point that it's better for the models.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think it's irresponsible of the adult industry to insist that performers don't wear condoms. I will admit I would get turned off if a girl receiving a blowjob was wearing a condom, but I would not have an issue with condoms being used if they're performing vaginal or anal sex.

There is another benefit to testing through AIM, which is useful to those who are not professionals - You can sign up for periodic testing without going to a doctor. HIV testing is important, but you could also get a range of other tests - Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Herpes, etc. as well. Not as serious as HIV but still nasty.

You could use AIM for tests either as a performer or a Non-performer. You could also go to other labs in the LA Area and even in other states.

I hope that they get their licensing issues resolved and are able to resume business soon.

I made my point. I'm not going to lower myself to your elementary school games. It doesn't matter how many times. It doesn't change the principals of capitalism.

I'm out of this thread.

AIM is a non-profit organisation ... that isn't very Capitalist.

"The nonprofit AIM clinic opened in 1998. Fielding said county public health officials did not become aware that they were operating without a license until April. In May, he said they sent clinic officials a letter advising them that as a nonprofit, they could not operate under an affiliated physician’s license and needed to apply instead for a clinic license."

Maybe you should read more instead of having knee-jerk reactions to everything.
Fucking womble.

Yeah, you know something. I'm not out of this thread yet after all because I can't let people spread disinformation just because they think I won't respond. That's some bullshit right there, so I guess I will bash AIM after all after doing a bit more research. It seems that you and indeed many other producers have little regard for models' health:

To wit:

1) Founder Sharon Mitchell is not a medical doctor - she is a sexologist.

Sharon Mitchell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Sharon_Mitchell.jpg" class="image"><img alt="Sharon Mitchell.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/77/Sharon_Mitchell.jpg/200px-Sharon_Mitchell.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/7/77/Sharon_Mitchell.jpg/200px-Sharon_Mitchell.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharon_Mitchell)

2) The database of performers is in direct violation of HIPAA laws, which is why my suggestion earlier in this thread that the producers fund it directly wouldn't actually work: there's far too much liability. They needed a front so they started AIM.

3) Some people are saying this is an 'administrative' problem, but let's face it: the laws and licensing are on the books to protect patients, so in effect, breaking those laws indicates an unsafe and/or illegal situation for performers.

4) Some have tried to compete with AIM but could not because they were already so ingrained within the industry. As I've held all along, I hope better and more numerous clinics spring up to fill the void.

5) People who work there and run the place still get paid. Let's be real: there's really no such thing as a true non-profit.

6) Of course there's the whole Derrick Barry incident as well as numerous others who have tested positive. In most of those cases, studios were quickly notified as were partners of the infected. Patient Zero was seldom, if ever, given the proper care, which is a direct indication that AIM protects the industry, not its performers. In short: testing doesn't even work from the models' perspective.

and last but certainly not least...

7) The industry does in fact fund AIM. It's logical to conclude that they do this to avoid using condoms in productions since they also pressure most models to do so to the point that those who want to use them many times cannot get work at all.

"After years of total inaction, Los Angeles County officials have finally shut down AIM -- the porn industry's sham clinic."

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local-beat/County-Closes-Health-Clinic-Funded-by-Porn-Industry-111636234.html

And here's some info on what's going on now regarding 'clandestine draw stations,' AKA illegal draw stations:

http://darrahford.wordpress.com/2010/12/09/aim-health-clinic-gets-shut-down-by-the-county-where-to-go-now-to-get-tested/

All of this said, I officially change my position on mandatory condom use. While as a Libertarian I hate mandating anything, they should be used EVERY TIME to protect the health and safety of performers and the integrity of studios that have always had this requirement, and frankly, since the fans prefer to not see condoms in their porn, the only way to level the playing field is to require them of everyone. Taking a, 'if you don't risk your life, you can't make a living attitude,' is beyond harsh; it's heartless.

Trust me, the market will adjust if it has no other options and OSHA should have the same standards for studios as it has for doctors, dentists, etc, to reduce the transmission of bloodborne pathogens.

Now I know why everyone was so quick to defend the place. It's just as shady as the other parts of the industry that I've attacked in the past and they knew what would happen once I had more information. They knew I'd put it out there. Well here it is.

I for one, would totally welcome all condom (for anal/vaginal) penetration shoots, in the industry. I've posted and argued on this a number of times. The majority of our hardcores are condom's, the ones that aren't are either between real life partners or a few though AIM, with performers we used regularly.

What's getting paid got to do with being non-profit?
Do you just type out shit constantly? You've never investigated AIM - so don't jump on that bandwagon - you just saw the post yesterday, so some girls that you don't like complain about it and decided to make it your cause for today.
Worse than an infected leech.

Are you saying this is the second time this week that we actually agree on something? That was not the response I was expecting!

Then you had to go and ruin it! :geek:

It means Sharon Mitchell has a profit motive to be involved in a questionable 'clinic.' Hello?! It's NOT rocket science.

And my motivations a) are not what you think, b) are none of your business, and c) have no bearing on the truth of the matter.

Every blood testing place I've been to in the USA, had no doctors.
Someone would take your blood - it would then be sent to a lab and the results back to yourself, your insurance company or your doctor.

Those places don't have sexologists masquerading as medical doctors. I know it probably doesn't disqualify her from being able to run a clinic such as AIM, but I think the more important question is: why does she feel the need to use her title as a PhD to imply that she's an MD? A curious case to say the least. 'Shady' would be a bit more accurate.

You want to let the fox back into the hen house? It was the porn industry that subsidized AIM. If they take another shot at this, it had better be on the level this time.

I very much doubt when you go to a blood testing centre that it's a doctor taking your blood?

BellaBellucci

Here's a potential solution: why don't those studios who subsidize AIM provide the subsidy instead to a mainstream provider such as Quest Diagnostics in order to get them to provide the quickest turnaround and earliest detection? They provide online test results, so instead of having a database open for everyone to see, producers can have the models privately log into their Quest accounts and show them the results before shooting.

Or again, better still, OSHA could just mandate condom use. This really shouldn't all be this complicated.

What part of it is nuts? I have the right to get my blood taken and tested at a lab without a doctors involvement? Why pay him to do nothing?

I'm not a huge fan of AIM by a long shot ... but I don't see what people are really getting at with the fact that there was not a medical doctor there?

I'm pretty sure you don't need a doctor Lisa. Maybe to get it on National Health you do - but if I want to go to a clinic, by myself and get a blood test for say cholesterol, then I can - and get the results. Frankly, I don't have much faith in GP's and would go directly to a specialist, so no, for things where I can easily read and understand the results, I don't need a doctor.

Almost identical. If you want tests/specialists then you have to go through a GP who is the gatekeeper. Some people though, pay for private insurance which gives you faster access, no gatekeepers, etc.

A convenient, discreet, and inexpensive alternative to AIM:

JustGetTested.com features adult industry blood profile in confidential environment
FORT MYERS, Fla., Dec. 13, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- In the wake of news that Adult Industry Medical Health Foundation (AIM), in Sherman Oaks, CA has been temporarily closed, many adult entertainers find themselves without affordable, reliable and confidential blood test options. JustGetTested.com, a leading online lab test site offers a blood test profile specifically designed for the adult industry. In addition to providing recommended STD testing, the site offers unparalleled confidentiality allowing only the person ordering the test access to results.
According to Edward Salko, D.O. and Sonny Patidor, M.D., co-medical directors of JustGetTested.com, it is imperative to inform adult industry talent that options are available.
"AIM's closing is concerning because it filled an important health need in the porn industry. Anyone working in the adult industry is at risk for contracting a number of sexually transmitted diseases and infections -- including HIV," says Salko. "Although testing alone won't stop the spread of infections, regular testing is recommended by the Centers for Disease control. The industry standard is to be tested monthly. HIV by PCR tests can detect the disease as soon as 28 days after exposure. Adult entertainers need to know that there is still an affordable and confidential means of getting blood tested."
JUSTGETTESTED.com, is a subsidiary of Fort Myers, Florida-based PERSONALABS, LLC, and its sister site, PERSONALABS.com. The sites provide blood testing options that do not require a physician's office visit and can be ordered discreetly and confidentially online. Clients order online and are directed to the nearest LabCorp client service center according to their zip code. Then, clients log onto a secure server to retrieve their results. The purpose of JUSTGETTESTED.com is to empower clients to have more control of their health care by allowing them to obtain sensitive health information that they can use to discuss with their healthcare provider or monitor their health.

any place that gives hiv tests should be shut down period because that test is a hogwash. std should be used for adult film performers not a bogus test such as a hiv test. this will never happen though cause modern medicine is so damn corrupt and they dont care who they hurt in the process.
