Has anyone else seen this?

I thought it was interesting seeing how parents were learning to cope with their transgendered children. (http://cerebraldiva.blogspot.com/2010/12/body-shock-my-son-wants-to-be-my.html)

Frankly....I was a little uneasy with it. Maybe that was my hang up...or maybe just because it was an 8 year old. The whole thing seemed natural and not contrived or coached in any way...that is to say the parents seem to be rather "normal" without agendas. They seemed loving and supportive, and I never try to judge parents too severely until one walks a mile in their shoes. Not sure what I would do under the same circumstances. No doubt they were doing what they felt was in the child's best interest. The seem to love the child deeply. I guess the thing that bothered me the most is the youngsters discussion of surgery at 8 years old. I obviously come at this from a "straight" mans prospective, and you one who can relate to the child's mind set and feelings far deeper than I ever could.....but I hope our conclusions are not that different.

This goes to show how gender identity is NOT sexual. They are way too young for any of that to be present in themselves.

I wanted to be a firetruck when I was 8. Thank god there is no surgery for that but if there was, you can bet some foolish parents would be turning their son into a firetruck as we speak.

You'll be like Dexter with a needle to the neck at his 18th B-Day party.

I totally empathise with the kid. When I was about 8 to 10, when we had `do`s` at home I used to dress in my sisters party dresses, put on a little bit of makeup and present myself to everyone.
My family would be tolerant but I would quickly be dragged away. I remember pleading to be accepted as a pretty girl.
I would then be humiliated. Of course what happened was that I ended up doing it in secret and still do to this day.
