NJ gets a bad rap. I was born there and grew up in a nice middle class suburb in North Jersey. Obviously Newark, the Meadowlands and the Oranges are places to avoid but it's got a lot to offer. Beaches, mountains, farms, excellent food, lots of industry, etc. The cost of living is high but no worse than states like Massachusetts.
