Three songs, that's it, ( Don't Fear the Reaper, Burnin for You, Godzilla), the rest suck.

Always liked "Harvester of Eyes"...
...Blue Oyster cult was an excellent live playing band...the studio songs don't always bring across what excellent performers these guys were...

...they also had a habit of doing what a lot of southern rock bands did at the time...big group guitar performances (at one point the drummer comes down to play....everyone plays a guitar)...they always gave you your money's worth...lasers...flame spouting godzilla..you name it.

Blue Oyster Cult was formed at the University of Buffalo, so I don't think they count as a SOuthern rock band, fwiw.

Ask Jamie....!

My favorite song of all time is "Don't fear the Reaper". It's my ringtone and I have a tons of their stuff too. I see them in concert as much as I can too.

I saw them in Nov '73. Nobody knew who they were. They were the first warmup band at a big concert in Phx, followed by a local group then another unknown band called ZZtop (Billy Gibbons clean shaven & sporting a pompadour). Needless to say the next band up, ELO, was slightly anti-climatic. War played a fabulous 20 minute version of "Slippin' into Darkness" as the sun went down, & 3 Dog Night (the headliner) never got on stage due to the massive storm that blew in suddenly.

It's amazing how vivid this memory is, despite the acid I took that day. I imagine partly because of the big adventure driving back to Flafstaff through blinding snow with a van full of drunks. Those were the days.

Like many of the rock bands that I like, I was introduced to their music as a young child (I must have been about 7 or 8 years old at the time), thanks to the "Monday Night Rock Show", hosted by Alan Freeman.

Great thread. Add me to the list of BÖC fans. Love the concert movie Black And Blue which showed a tour they did with Black Sabbath in 1980.

I was comparing the stage style of southern rock bands ..not saying they are one..lol....I'm a New Yorker ...saw them a lot in the late 70's - early 80's...they used to open for a lot of bands playing MSG back then.

(saw the Black & Blue tour BTW)

B.O.C does a killer cover of Born to Be Wild.
Several killer versions, there's at least one studio version (a b-side?) and a few live versions as well.

They also did 'Roadhouse Blues' as well, there are a few bootlegs around with that track (see link (http://bootlegtunzworld.blogspot.com/2010/05/blue-oyster-cult-trocadero-06241986.html)).
