I'm not too thrilled about it. We have to drive through the Berkshires and down the Hudson to the Catskills...could be messy.

Down Philly/Baltimore way it is cold, but not yet snowing. There were very light flurries earlier, but nothing scary yet.

I madesure the stray cat is on the porch, moved my car, and alerted the Mexicans (Who have plows on their trucks), so I am ready for the worst. :)

I have AWD now (In addition to my ADD...Look! A squirrel!), but it is of little help when the car is six feet deep in a drift or the county DOT sadists have buried it for a laugh.

It also doesn't seem to help much at STOP signs. You get that nice momentum up and just as you're thinkin' "Look, Ma! This car gets through anything!" along comes the dreaded octagon and things get =real= quiet as you slide right across the intersecting road, giving yourself whiplash as you swing your head back and forth, looking to see what's going to T-Bone ya.

But it is helpful on the wimpy little hills where just a tiny bit of slush can hang up even the best good-ol-boys and their pickemup twucks.

NYC during a good snow storm ranks among my very favorite things. I remember the very last storm from last winter, playing chess with my neighbor while listening to Billy Holiday and getting sauced. A fond memory.

When it comes to dealing with heat, you're a better man than I am. Even with AC, I don't know how people who live in Florida and the surrounding states get through the summer. I actually bought a vacation house down in Georgia this summer. Damn is it hot. My wife says she wouldn't mind retiring there instead of Europe. If we did, I would probably die of a heart attack within a weak. Here's a pic from the back porch of a place that I doubt I shall see much of:

I was going to do a weather check on your side of the Atlantic, because after Wendy saying she would be visiting London it struck me that the difference between Florida and the UK would be bracing to say the least.

Prediction for the UK this winter is that it will be between -
the coldest winter for 10 years (which doesn't say much as the last 10 have all been mild) and -
the coldest winter for 50, which will put us under banks of snowdrifts. And while even this shouldn't be as bad as the pic above, the UK is lousy at coping with extreme weather, so expect headlines like 'Britain frozen to a halt' etc.

And to the guy who is coming over from NZ over the festive season, bring plenty of winter clothing. The big freeze is expected to start today/tomorrow, with my bit of the country under a hailstorm at the moment.

Driving in snow is no problem, if you've grown up dealing with it, rear-wheel drive or not. LOL. I mean people managed with it when there was nothing but rear-wheel drive, non-power drum brakes, skinny tires and no traction control. As for the rest of it ... Snow creates such beautiful backdrops, you have to love it from time-to-time.

I love it when a good prediction comes true!

Cornwall is THE most southerly part of the UK. And we've had fairly nasty stuff up north, in Wales etc., but for some reason, less than an inch of snow in Cornwall and bingo!

People trapped in their vehicles ovenight on Bodmin Moor ( think Sherlock Holmes). People being 'rescued' to residential centres in Cornwall. Schoolkids trapped for hours until rescued late at night.

All this despite the 'worst winter for ...' having been predicted for weeks.

Just remember, we live in the 1st world!

For those of you who live in NYC, has anyone actually attempted to go outside? I just did, and the snow was up to my knees. Damn, I love this weather.....

22.8 inches in Central Park, and it's still coming down hard.

The Mexicans went missing right after it stopped snowing. As their big pickemup truck, the one with the plow rig, is also gone, I don't expect them to be back for days. I expect they'll plow my space out while I'm at work tomorrow. I love these guys. :D

Meanwhile, all the junior rednecks are out on their ATVs, towing family members around on sleds. There must also be a birdfeader nearby, because my yard is full of Cardinals and Orioles (Not the ball teams). The cats are truly freaking out.
