I',m curious about the taboo of it.
You'll eat sheep, cow, pig...If it was cooked, and set in front of you, so choosy about(as you rightly called) long pig?

If you were starving, and someone put a cooked 'arm' in front of you, how long before you ate it?
And if you'd eat a cooked arm, how long before you'd eat the other arm, raw?

Even i'd balk at raw meat, but, i'm thinking a couple of days! :shrug

Hell yeah...probably delicious if prepared right...I'm thinking maybe smoked, like in "Motel Hell"....almost everything tastes good smoked (or deep fried..lol).

...I'd only eat it raw if it was ground up and an egg cracked over it.

I have no problem with it at all. Food is food in an emergency situation. I think people put far too much importance on what is essentially an empty shell anyway.

Oh yeah, I'd be totally pro-soylent green if it existed. I want to be cremated anyway, so if my post-mortem choices came down to that or having my body used to feed starving children in Africa or something, which do you think I'd gladly choose?

And of course I could even still have my bones cremated if I chose, just in case anybody wanted some ashes that they can pretend are mine. :geek:

Sassy is bolder than bold. Sure beats the last coffee out of human remains that I had that had a weak self-loathing flavor with a bitter aftertaste of sarcasm. Woody Allen's ashes would make the worst coffee ever.

So did some pagan Eastern Europeans tribes when the Teutonic Knight's entered those thick, wooded, backwards territories, with sword and what we would call "crusade."

But one of the most sinister civilizations I ever read about was the Mexica or those better known as the Aztecs. Don't get me wrong. A past great civilization with noble achievements and laws in many ways, but some aspects of that past civilization were rather sinister. Their nobility consumed human flesh and blood too.

My grandfather was a Cossack in Russia and would joke about carrying around human body parts in a satchel or burying them in the snow then eating them when he was hungry. He died when I was young but I always remember him as a crazy old man.

There is also a running joke passed down in my family about Mongolian BBQ, but not the same type you would get in a restaurant. I think they did some Turkish Kabobs too.

i'm sure i'll get a ton of flack for this, but i would definitely eat people, and not just in a survivalist situation.
if it's cooked properly and came from someone who wasn't diseased and who wasn't murdered (just a natural death) then sure. i like eating meat and have no problem with the idea of eating a person, as long as it's not the brains since the limited amount of research on the subject has shown that eating brains, especially of one's own species, contains neurotoxins which will make you crazy (as seen in some island cultures and mad-cow disease)
it would certainly help the world hunger problem (a la soylent green) especially since there's now talk of mass farming certain insects to make high-protein composites, and eating cooked patties of insects is way more disgusting to me than eating some human shell steak

I think it depends on the scale of the desire to live. Homeless people eat everything to survive. Why shouldn´t humans turn into occasional cannibals if there´s no alternative left?

I think most people would do it if there was no other solution. When a person is close to death, survival instincts take over. And a person will do anything to survive, even if that means eating someone. They may feel bad afterwards and won't talk about it.

Actually it tastes like pork & bacon depending on what part of the body you're talking about.

The problem with cannibalism is that things tend to go wrong when mammals eat their own species. That's how stuff like mad cow got started. There are a few human conditions similar to mad cow that can occur from cannibalism In one of my anthroployg courses we covered this one tribe, I can't for the life for me remember where they were from... but basically they would eat the brains of desceased tribe members as a way of memorializing them and as a result they commonly developed various brain and nervious system disorders. It's not a very safe idea.

I would prefer to be put in a box and thrown in the ground to rot than have my society feasting on my brains but that's just me.
